The Battle: A Poem

Updated on June 6, 2014

An unearthly silence cascades through the room
Your heart has stopped beating; you’re consigned to your doom
The quiet is poisonous, the hatred profound
The emotions inside you screaming, but you make no sound

The shadows surround you, and you cannot breathe
You want to get out, but cannot leave
Your mind has taken over, there is no escape
You feel that your heart is beginning to break

Ghosts of your nightmares and horrors unleashed
Your suit of armor is no match for me
I slink through your thoughts, I will surely prevail
And create terrors for you that you always will feel

Your fears come alive, and your life is a mess
I will give you no peace, no comfort, no rest
Demons come out from the darkness of night
I’ll keep you away from all hope and all light

You want to get free, but the shackles are strong
You want me to go, but you can’t fight me long
I’ll stick by your side, I will keep you depressed
I’ll make you so frightened, you’re petrified at best

There is no way out, I have you at last
You have no future, no present, no past
My cluthes are iron, your struggles are weak
You won’t break free, and you cannot stop me

I’ll fill your dreams with horrors of night
I’ll consume your mind, you’ll be full of spite
You’ll cry for help, but no one will hear
You do not matter, no one holds you dear

I’ll come out on top, you’re stuck here forever
There is nothing to do, my grip will never waver
You are pitiful, so weak and alone
You have no place to call your own

You see, now I have you, you know you are lost
You have consented to your doom, you know who is boss
Don’t ever look back, or look up for help
You will not find it, and love won’t be held

What’s that, you are saying, there’s someone who cares?
Your Savior, your friend, who will always be there
You’re not afraid because he’s on your side?
What happened to me and the fear I supplied?

You’re turning away, you think I’m unworthy
You think that this God will save you from hurting?
I have control, and you cannot break free
But why am I feeling so weak?

You have on new armor, your sword in unsheathed
Your God by your side, you know I can be beat
I am losing strength, and it is no use
Why does the Father care for you?

Why did He die on the cross for your sins?
Why does He want you to follow Him?
Why is he stronger by far than I?
Why am I losing, please tell me, why?

You have defeated me, I know when I’m beat
But be warned, I’ll be back, so be ready for me
He is now by you’re side, I’m not worth anything
Because of your Lord, and your Savior, and King

Be gone, Satan, for you are done with me
I will not stand for this insanity
Your intentions are evil, and your heart is corrupt
You are not worth it, you don’t understand love

With my God by my side, I will win the battle
So you best back off, for the chains I will rattle
With God I will break them, and He will fight for my soul
And He will win, and you will be gone

A wonderfully written and powerful poem. Very inspirational a confirmation that with God on our side we can always defeat Satan. Voted up Elizabeth.

Excellent poetry on spiritual warfare and a good reminder for all to put on that full armor of God each and every morning for those fiery darts from the enemy will attempt to take us down, but we know he is just a liar and deceiver, but has no power over the One in us!

      Up and more and away

God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Very nicely written poem hub Elizabeth. You have a way with words. I really do believe there is a battle taking place. It has been for awhile. Satan indeed has a tricky way of getting someone to act on his behalf too. Many times, he uses our own selves against our selves. Drug addictions, jealousy, murder, etc. Thanks for sharing :)
