Poem: Thoughts of You

Updated on September 17, 2012

The inspiration for this poem is from personal knowledge of being a part from the one you love. This is mainly because of a job that entails that type of separation (e.g. military deployment). I hope that you will enjoy this interpretation of those heartfelt feelings that are known by many who are involved in this type of relationship.

Looking out the bay window with no one around,

Observing the fall leaves slowly descending upon the ground,

There is a still calmness,

That surrounds my entire being,

There is a peaceful quietness,

Which cascades like a small river stream.

My thoughts reflect of yesterday,

Memories forever engraved,

The smiles, lightheartedness and love,

You are my angel sent from heaven above.

As I glance from the window to the fireplace,

Pictures of you and I stand tall,

The lounge chair where you usually sit is empty,

This is destined to be a long, lonely fall.

I understand the work that you have to do,

Accepted that when I chose this life with you,

Knowing that we would have to be apart,

Always holding on to the tremendous love in our hearts.

Your assignment has taken you far away,

But my thoughts are with you each and every day,

I will keep holding on and praying,

Until the day that you return home.

Now I glance back out the window,

Watching the autumn leaves fall once again,

Taking a brief moment I close my eyes,

Vividly see your handsome face and bright smile,

Knowing that you will be back home after a little while.
