Poem ..........Witness to spectacle

Updated on March 12, 2016

He picks up a well used broken red brick
and hurls it carelessly into the crowd
looking to see just where it hits in the masses
the uncontrolled the loud

Moving forward in the masses uncontained uncontrolled he
watches the mood on the faces of the riot cops
when the mood changes he'll make his escape but until then
his violence will flow to the top

Tie dye shirt and dreadlocks or bow tie
and polished shoes
who are the real brown -shirts in this culture
is it me or is it you?

He picks up a sign post and swings it at a man
holding a banner "peace and love "
watching as the blood flows from his open wounds
he swings again from above

As the meth high in his veins begins to wain
his refocus see's an image of mayhem now token
too his right in the alley he sees three men hovering
over a woman naked and broken

That night on the six o'clock news his image
before the news anchors polished and smooth
but why was he there to begin with
come on riot boy tell the truth

You hit the nail right on the head. Powerful poetry. People like that are so frightening and I always feel so sorry for the people they hurt and even kill.
