Poems of the Sea
The vast breathtaking beauty of the ocean naturally draws the poet to speak of her power, grace, and cruelty.
Please enjoy three poems about the sea.
Solace found in dark and deep
in endless skies and salty feet.
Freedom felt in torrent spin
fear beheld in shadowed fin.
Mysteries buried in sunken heap
Wonder found in uncovered deep.
I watched an expanse come between
and all the waters gathered to one place
and dry land emerge.
I watched creatures come forth.
and out of dust come life
I watched the light of a thousand suns.
And mountains disappear
and continents spread.
I hold the flood back
and constrain the deep.
I Am The Sea
I'll swim, he said.
No, you'll sink, said she.
I'll build a castle reaching to the sky.
I'll tear it down with the tide.
I'll row my boat out to sea.
I'll wash you back in by the count of three.
I'll dive down deep.
I'll float you up.
I'll try to stay down.
You'll just give up.
I'll spend the night on soft white sand.
I'll send the wind to chill the land.
I'll build up cities oh so tall.
I'll break them down with tsunami wall.
Why do you have to be so cruel, he said.
I am the sea, said she.
