About This Poem

Want the world to be a better place, but think that the problems are so big that there is nothing that you can do? Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives we forget about the little things, and sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.

This is a gentle reminder to do something nice for someone today!

It only takes a minute

Sixty seconds, sometimes less

To make somebody smile

Or to make a burden less.

If we would all just stop

Take that moment from an hour,

The force of something positive

Would gain each day in power.

If in our hearts we all could find

A thought for someone else,

Take the time to stop and ask

About our neighbor's health.

Share a smile with a stranger

When passing on the street,

Have a pleasant word to say

To someone we might meet.

Help a stranded motorist

Change a blown-out tire,

Just a moments helpfulness

Is all that is required.

Spare the change left in our pocket

To some worthy cause,

Learn to love one another

And overlook our flaws.

Share what we have ourselves

With someone who has not,

It only takes a little

It doesn't take a lot.

Offer up assistance

To one in need of help,

Someone else once gave to you

Do you remember how that felt?

Speak a word of encouragement

Be someones system of support,

Jump in at the very start

Don't be their last resort.

Listen to a child with your heart

Not just with your ears,

Soothe away their worries

Wipe away their tears.

Stop to chat with a neighbor

Who doesn't get out much anymore,

When you see someone coming

Hold the elevator door.

Simple acts of kindness

Would go a long long way

In making sure that someone else

Has a pleasant day.

It really wouldn't hurt you

Of this I am a believer,

To do something for someone else

It wouldn't hurt me either.

If all of us would just commit

To do one good deed each day,

For the sake of someone else

Go a little out of our way.

It only takes a moment

To lend a helping hand,

To let the misunderstood

Know that you understand.

To check up on a sick friend

To tell someone you care,

Take a chance and try it

If you are brave enough to dare.

Try doing something nice

For someone you don't know,

Be a sympathetic ear

For someone feeling low.

Offer up that 'atta boy!

To one who has done good,

It might mean the world to them

If you only would.

Give your seat to an older person

Or to that expectant mother,

I'll bet you even money

That you get a thankful smile from her.

The world would be a better place

If more people would learn to give,

Yes, it would be a better place

For all of us to live.

My message here is simple

It should by now be clear

Life would be much sweeter

If to this rule we would adhere.

Treat others as you yourself

Wish that others would treat you,

Mind your manners, be considerate

In what you say and do.

Love your neighbor

As you love yourself,

Follow the golden rule

For it is still the very best.

It only takes a minute

Sixty seconds, sometimes less,

If we would all just take a moment

The world would not be such a mess.

Do You Do For Others?

Have you done something today for someone other than yourself?

@writer20 - That is a good practice, an example that we should all follow. When my two older children were young, I used to tell them every morning as they went to school, "do something nice for someone today, and I want to hear about it tonight." It took a long time to convince my son that it didn't count if he was doing it to benefit himself. Thank you for the gift of your time and your comments, they are both welcomed and deeply appreciated! Have a wonderful day!

Small acts of kindness everyday will go along way to pave the way for all mankind. It takes a minute to turn a frown upside down and cheer up somebody's day. Give with a glad heart, keep giving until it hurts. Never worry about it coming back, unconditional loving and caring is all that counts. Your hub covered so many acts of kindness, thank you for sharing them as a reminder to give and help with a cheerful heart. There are so many others with far less than what we have.

@Frank Atanacio - And Thank you for the gift of your time and your comments, they are both welcomed and appreciated. It is a bit like that old Balsam Shampoo commercial...and they told two friends, and they told to friends...If everyone tells two friends, it might catch on and start a revolution! LOL Thanks again,

Yes, this world would be better. I thank you for sharing this reminder and Blessings for you and yours. Shalom! :)
