Poems of Lost Love

Updated on August 16, 2011

Poems of Love Lost

We have all been there. Ending it is never easy, hardly ever fast and it always leaves a vacant feeling where once there was hope. These are poems I wrote when I was younger and still searching.

Picking up the pieces

Is a game we all know

Taking the chances necessary

For a life well loved

There are no forevers left for me

I gave them all to you

You took them and ran

My shadow is etched

In the stone wall by the driveway

Where I stood for what seemed hours

Watching the last trace of you

Dissolve with the sinking sun

But still there is hope. No matter how many times we fail at love there is hope that the next one will be different.

This Time

Eating peanuts

Drinking beer

Talking with you

And some friends

Laughing at a joke

I enjoy these times

So much now

Because like our loving

They come so seldom

I know it’s time

For one of us

To leave

(Me this time

You found the apartment)

It feels wrong

This time

Just not right

I’ll tell you tomorrow

And if you cry

I’ll stay a little longer

We can make it

Maybe we can make it

This time

And then you meet the one you have been looking for.

I didn’t ask much of life

Just a little happiness

A little love

But I got the dark side

The pain and sadness

Of love gone bad

Until you

You must be my reward

For coming through the fire

Still able to love

You are more than I ever hoped for

More than I ever thought I could hold

Until you

I thought my heart had died

Now I know

It was only waiting

Truckstop Sally, Thanks, We just got back from Sanible for our 28th anniversity. So far so good. I think she almost has me housebroken.

Binaya.Ghimire, It isn't, we have been together 28 years and still counting. She only has two rules, all the money is hers and she is always right. I get to buy her flowers with her money. Pretty cool!! I haven't figured out the always right part yet but I am working on it.

AloraChamberlain, For me it was always much harder to end than to begin.

Beautiful ending to a reflective journey. Congratulations to you and the "reward". Best wishes for many more meaningful days!

I hope the waiting is not going to be eternal.

Very nice, even though of all the loves I may have lost, they all led to my wonderful husband of present. Beautiful words here covering love. Nice!

"Watching the last trace of you dissolve with the sinking sun." Lines like that make my heart melt. Thank you for sharing.
