Poems I Like

Updated on April 1, 2010

Some Poems By Lou Gamm

Lou Gamm is an unknown poetess,and has  a single book of published poetry.

I do not know much about her, except that she is of Chinese origin and may still be alive.

I wanted to share her poems.

So here are a few

A water lily floats upon a shadowed pool

Among mountains...far away.

The deep, dark surface of the water...all unseen;

She does not droop her lovely head in sorrow

that she is alone unpraised,

Among the mountains far away.

She is content to live and cast her beauty

On the still, ungrateful air;

She is content to die and drift away-

Upon the cool, unfeeling stream.

In the valley of the transparent Moon

Where night turns back to night,

To the wraiths of Longing dance a solemn dance,

To strange and minor music

Wind played, upon the twisted branches of the trees.

In the valley of the transparent moon

Theri shapes take form upon the night,

And muted ears enrapture to the tuneless sounds

That flow in endless rhapsody

To this land of misplaced souls.

In the Valley of the transparent Moon

Arms stretch forth in hopeless gesture,

And the trembling wail of the heart-cry

Turns silent; while dry tears flow

And lose themselves upon a silent prayer.

When dawn broke, I awoke, and thought, and thought of you;

   And prayed this day that you would come.

When sun rose High,to sky, I watched for you ;

    With quiet hope that you would come come.

Then twilight fell; hopes dispel; I sigh for you ;

    This day is gone, you have not come.

The moon rides low; I know, I wait in vain ;

    A sob suppressed; you will not come.

...There lay the deep pools, and the white Lotus,

Ethereal and solemn as reeembodied wraiths of Loveliness!

Their fragrance, wild and rare, rare, spreads its own intoxication,

And the air shimmers into surrender, and ripples into music

Sensitive aand volatiloe, spherical and strange... reverent beauty.

I am a tree

I am a tree

             To the elements.

I ama tree

I am a tree

To winds I call,

               In a monotone.

Wooed by the east wind

Lashed by the west wind

Kissed by the south wind

Cursed by the south wind

I am a tree

swaying only-

I am a tree

Lonely, lonely.

I am a reed

By cool winds swayed

I am a reed

In swamp land laid

In gentle winds

I sway and swoon,

The breeze for my dance

Hums me a tune.

I am a reed

By cool winds stirred

I am a reed

I delight

In my nothingness.

I glory

In my powerlessness.

I long

For will-lessness.

I stand

In shadow

The light.

Like shades of beauty, returned to dwell

In lavish loveliness upon the silvered pool,

The Lotus breathed her scented sweetness

Upon the insatiable air

And cast hers ensues splendour

Into silent depths of water.

One Glance was all our eyes exchanged

Few, the words that were spoken;

There was no touch of hand, no brush of face-

But deep my sorrow, deep my pain

For Fate decrees our paths cross not again.

Capricious Heart

My Heart is a wanderer...

And with impulse for guide,

It's over the hill

Down the path...

By your side.

You cannot see it...

For its but the Waif of Me.

Travelling the path

Where it knows...

You will be.

You cannot hear it...

For it matches its beat,

o the beat of you heart

Feel it, feel sweet?

A little memory

Cherished so

               Will it go?

               Will it go?

Petals of the rose

Become less fair,

Then lose themselves

Upon the air...

Will this memory

grow less clear

             With each year?

             With each year?

Memery, memory

Hold me fast!

               To the last!

               To the last!

When I recall the poignant sweetness

That your silent eyes impart,

My eyes are dry...but O the tears

That spring within my heart!

When I remember certain smiles

That your gentle lips impart

My lips are still...but O the smiles

That burn inside my heart!

When I recall the words you spoke,

Words that only you impart,

My voice is mute...but O the thoughts

That whirl around my heart!

 Our Love

Is a fanciful thing

A foolish thing

A fragile thing!

               For you will never know of it.

Our love

Is lovely

As the trembling peach blossom

I nurture it.

                 But you will never know of it.

Our love

Sprang to sudden bloom

Without root

Without soil

              Without you ever knowing it.

Our love is a gentle thing

Pure and perfect

And cruelly real

            But you must never know of it.

Our love

Is mine alone

To bloom unseen

To die unsung

             For you- will never know of it.

When next, when next we meet!

Ah! foolish fancy mine!

Your heart was taken long ago-

And mine is no longer mine.

When next, when next we meet!

O thought of thoughts divine!

I would, Forbidden One, be yours-

And you- but only mine

When next, when next we meet!

Across a room- your eyes to mine!

My quivering heart so safely hid-

My rampant very mine.

If I could cast on you a spell!

And mesmerize

Your very senses...with my eyes.

If I could sink you in the quick-sands

Of romance;

Hold you helpless...with a glance.

If I could throw a robe of deep

Enchantment over you;

Veil each dream in...moon-glow hue.

If I could scatter star-dust in your path

And your emotions tie,

Then twist, with..... one small sigh.

If I could catch you in a web

Then knot the mesh

By merely lowering an eyelash.

If I could drown you in the music i devise;

Set you ate sea

By one strange..melody

If I could cast on you a spell!

And never, let you free..

Then you might know the cast...on me.

My love is sad today,

Each breath a sigh;

And when my love is sad

....the Angels cry.

The learning

Men derive from books

Makes them appear most

But wisdom

That could stir the stars

Will be printed

And every hour

The Wise Fool reads

His native knowledge more

He suffered

The silent isolation

Of superiority;

And never knew

The stupid comforts of mediocrity.

He breathed

A purer and a

Rarer air;

And lost the

Common touch;

Nor did he care.

His thoughts

By opposites

His actions

He lived

Apart from

Evil and Good;

And reached forth

No hand from

Where he stood.

With the simplicity of innate sophistication,

And the sophistication of innate simplicity;

With the naturalness that accompanies greatness,

And the greatness that accompanies naturalness;

With the humility that ennobles genius,

And the genius that ennobles humility-

He walked and talked with us;

And went his way.

How seriously we take ourselves!

And every day’s detail

Brings shouts of joy – uncertainty-

Or tears and bitter wail…

But if we watched from tower above

I wonder, could we help but say-

Another struggling little gnat

Has passed another fitful day.

"Everything breaks

Everything wears out

Everything passes away."

O the pale promise

And the potential threat!

Before we step into the Void’

The Nature of nothing must be met!

My Destiny lies,

Among the stars-

Unfurl it now!

For I grow

Of the wait!

And if

My departure

This certain sphere

Was writ

Ere I was born-

When, be it?

Speak, Fates!

The Secret Scroll!

What waits?

My treasure chest is filled with life-

Love, thoughts, tears, and strife.

Back in a little darkened part

I find a quivering, broken heart.

Here vibrates a living thrill!

A lovely thing! It won’t be still!

A memory lingers very near,

And cling to its side – a tear.

A fragrance permeates the chest-

And there’s a sorrow, gone to rest.

      Thanks, I will try to share great poems of other poets. Hope you like them..and all you decent souls do need an occasional relief from my awful (original) poems and needs a better kind of distraction once in a while.

      At least, MFB III - the peerless poet has perfect poetic taste that great poets find hard to deliver and live up to. It's another fact that he is really kind and encourages poetic failures like me.
