Poetry: 7 Picturesquish Quotes & Sayings

Updated on January 26, 2017
Source

Poetry is connected with musical traditions dating back to our religious periods. The musicality of poetry is enhanced by the use of alliterations, assonance, onomatopoeia and rhythm, which produces an incantatory effect.

Our religious days predates the presence of literacy, just as poetry predates the presence of literacy. For instance, we have a record of the ancient writings of the Vedas dating from 1700-1200 BC; together with the Odyssey which dates from 800-675 BC.

Poems was the source of stories about histories, prayers, politics and wars because it was an easy way to preserve and memorize the essence of cultures days gone by. Poems were sung or spoken out aloud.

Poetry is not only about the beauty found in the words of one’s language, but also the beauty expressed in a moment of time. Poetry is also an affirmation of a mind in a certain way.

Poetry eluded me in secondary school as it eluded me my whole life until nine months ago. They say poetry happens when nothing can happen. That’s what happened to me. My emotions found my thoughts. Poetry found me.

These past months, words became my brushstroke that spoke of the silence. Springing a rainbow of colours that enabled me to not only speak on one level, but to speak on many levels simultaneously, giving me a sense of freedom I haven’t felt for some time coming.

To you, the four-year-old within, there is a poet awaiting who wants to sing, dance and paint. Let these gathered quotes merge and fulfil the unsaid longing.

Poetry is more than what meets the eye. Poems are totally subjective and can mean many things to different people. Thank you for welcoming me into the poet's circle:)

Really appreciate this hub! It explains why I don't feel truly connected with the words until I've found the right kind of instrumental whenever I write. Poetry is history, it's music, wow you said it right alright. They don't teach this anymore though. Welcome from the poetry community. We are so delighted you've joined us :) haha, ::purple-smiley-demon-face-emoji::

Affection is a gift. Not everyone has the experience of having affection in their lives or the amount of affection they would like to experience. Have to appreciate when and where.

I'm going to have to think about mine. Take care Julie

      Dear ThreeKeys,

It may be worth a try. Here's one from me: Affection, no matter how the story ends, is always a gift.

      Take care,

      Julie

I, too, find other's quotes and sayings more inspiring. But maybe between our life experiences we can offer at least one saying. Worth a try, hmmm?

      Dear ThreeKeys,

How lovely that your friend got you started in collecting quotes and saying. I've an extensive quote collection. A few of these can be found in my hubs. I don't know about collecting my own sayings and quotes. I generally find the words of others more appealing.

      Happy writing and quote finding,

      Julie

Hello Julie, happy you stopped to read. Yes, poetry found me. I don't know for how long or if only for now, but I am enjoying it. Creating something from nothing-is something else, for me. With the quotes? A friend of mine got me started in collecting quotes and sayings. Maybe Julie, we should have a go and create some of our own sayings and quotes?

All the best in your creative efforts,

      Julie
