In the event that the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) was discovered and beginning to spread from China then other parts of East Asia, then up to the entire Asia. And in an instance conquered the United States of America, South America as well as parts of Europe and the World Health Organization (WHO) said it is already a pandemic issue.

My country, Philippines, started as early as first week of March that the government will going to imposed a Luzon Lockdown, also considers as Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting March 15, 2020. That day is a Sunday. In that new Executive Order by the Philippine President, only employees were allowed to travel to go to their respective workplace. I am living with my family in the province nearby the metropolis. I am working in the metropolis, and in order to avoid any problem with my transportation from the border between the province and the metropolis, March 14 afternoon, I decided to go to my mother’s place in the metropolis, almost ten kilometers away from my workplace.

Then, Monday, March 16, 2020, I got a chance to report for work. Before the end of the work, most of the supervisors already said that we have to take care of ourselves specifically with the health issue. On the same day, at night, while at my mother’s home, we are watching news channel and the Philippine President announced to suspend all kinds of public transportation. In that case, I have no means of travelling to my workplace.

March 17, 2020, I did not report for work. I just informed my supervisors not to report for work because of transportation issue. They understood the issue because they’re already aware of the President’s announcement last night. While at my mother’s home, I am still waiting, when the President will lift the suspension of the public transportation, so that, I have a chance to report for work, but nothing happens. And on the 21st of March (Saturday), I decided to go back to the province with my family using the bicycle of my mother’s neighbor. I borrowed that bicycle just to go back to the province, pedaling with the speed of 5-15 kilometer per hour (too slow) just to reach the house to be with my family.

Although, I received my salary first salary during the ECQ on March 20 covering the payroll February 26 to March 10. Then, I received my partial 13th month pay on March 26 as mandated by the government to instruct companies to help the people. Then on April 5, I received my second salary covering the March 11 to March 25, however, since I only reported March 11, 12, 13 and 16, I only received a salary good for 4 days. Too sad. And because of that frustration due to that quarantine issue, I started composing free verse poems about “quarantine”, “COVID-19”, “lockdown” and any in relation of last April 3 and continue to do that up to this moment.

Today, while still adding more poems in this collection, I am still in the “no work no pay” that affects my savings, in which got a problem in feeding my family.

Busy Life

It is already the Day 58 of the quarantine

In which, I spend time writing like in famine

Composing all my necessary events in the Palestine

To say nothing but frustration in the quarantine.

I am always busy to think about it

How I or the government will end it

The so-called COVID-19 kill us like a bandit

Either we hit the virus or no food to eat.

Every letters of the poem, I wrote

I am trying to tell everyone to quote

What’s my busy life hanging in a tooth

Banding with my patience in the lockdown to put.

Hello, here’s my busy life

Loving my family as high as the kite

Praying every single food to byte

That next day, the COVID-19 will end the light.

Day 57

It is already near sixty days

For the event of no work no pays

As the COVID-19 arises

And no idea when it end in the provinces.

The pain of the Luzon Lockdown

Losing hope in the downtown

No idea when the sun will go down

To make sunrise in the midst of uptown.

Day 57, dictates to me to write more

A free verse poetry in a Commodore

Flowing in the ocean of words in the core

Inking each letter in the paper adore.

I love to write poetry while in the quarantine

Than struggling to know the news about quarantine

While waiting the COVID-19 cases flatten the intestine

In order to live a new life of the Palestine.

Earlier this morning

We are still sleeping

When our dog keeps on barking

Until my eldest son woke me up and I am thinking

What’s the reason behind a lady outside keeps on knocking.

I immediately stood up to attend

Do not know what to bend

And to check what is happening to lend

How could I help the lady to send.

As I attend the lady outside

She just gave me a short paper on the side

Bearing my local government unit beside

That tomorrow, I will receive a new seaside.

With the COVID-19, local government unit is helping

The people in the community that needs something

To help a family food to eat in lieu of pending

No work no pay for already two months of nothing.

Thanks Pamela for that comment. In order to survive, I am just creating ebooks for now and maintaining blogs and vlogs so that in the future, I have new savings in waiting from different paying sites like Hubpages.

Interesting commentary and account. I still fight guilt over being so well off.
