Poetry--The Blocked Writer

Updated on July 20, 2012

Intro

All Writers deal with Writer's Block at many points in their life.

It can truly feel like a wall blocking the human mind and not even the easiest things to write seem plausible. There are days inspiration can be abound, and yet not even one word or one thought will come to mind.

This poem intends to capture the emotion of writer's block and hopefully inspire those that are afflicted with the annoyance, to know that this too passes, and although it may take time, one day the block will lift and the writing can continue.

No matter what, NEVER give up on any goals regardless of what hurdles stand in the way. To give up on one's goals and in one's dreams is to give up on oneself.

Thank-you for taking the time to read "The Blocked Writer" which is dedicated to every writer aspiring to color the world with their words and especially to the WONDERFUL, people on HubPages that have Inspired and Encouraged so many!!

As always, Please feel free to comment and suggestions are always welcomed.

The Blocked Writer

Highly motivated, driven to succeed

Heart thumping, mind whirling, fingers prepared to bleed.

Silence in the room, there is not

nevertheless, maintaining slightly in heavy thought.

Searching desperately for new found inspiration

shirt soaked, filled with forehead's perspiration.

Eyes darting at the speed of light,

surveying all that could be in sight.

Teeth clenched, faintly brazing the lower lip,

the blank screen, laughing, mocking; yet still not a blip.

Fingers eagerly tap for the keyboard, then break away;

not a thought comes to mind, the heart led astray.

Haunted by words not written, tortured by the insolent mind

not a word spoken, not a sound heard, and yet still nothing appears kind.

Ridiculously afflicted by the emptiness inside,

wondering if the intellect has truly left, or has the intellect just died.

Fingers now spread, tugging, grasping, reaching at the hair,

Mouth trolled, lips sneeringly drawn, heart now left feeling in despair.

Grasping for words once created,

Frustrated, maimed by thoughts still hesitated.

The impenetrable invisible wall suppresses, stifling the air,

more than any writer could handle more than any could withstand to bear.

Traveling through the senses, poisoning the mind,

fervently ensnared in the wall's tightly held bind.

Surprisingly unexpectedly, like a dawn of a new day

the wall's bind starts to fade and ever so slowly chips away.

Visions of memories flood the once insolent mind,

corrupted no longer by the wall that once bind.

The fingers dance across the keys,

busying faster than the busiest of bees.

Words pour through the once blank screen,

no longer mocked by what once appeared obscene.

Marvels of thoughts pour on to each word,

sentences build quickly while striking a chord.

With a deep cleansing breath, no longer a strain,

the air now a melody of the freshest spring rain.

Inspiration floods the senses, now that the weight has truly lifted,

there is no holding back, no bans in the way, nothing can stop the truly gifted.

Highly motivated, driven to succeed

Heart thumping, mind whirling, fingers prepared to bleed.

Conclusion

Writing is a form of expression of one's feelings and thoughts. Sometimes the mind is blank, however, eventually new thoughts and expressions appear and those ideas will shine.

Great job! The picture you painted is accurate, to say the least. I went thru a couple of weeks without publishing because everything that came out was trash. Step back and give it a rest. My best stuff, so far, has come from that which affects me emotionally (like your poem). You're very talented!

Patty, take this statement to the bank...you are a very good writer. You perfectly captured the spirit of writing and the agony when minds go blank and the words won't come. Excellent job my friend. It is a pleasure reading your work.
