Poetry , Night of a long ago child

Updated on September 17, 2015

Just like laying in bed on a cold winters night
and never getting warm enough
tonight there's too much
space beneath the milky way

I'm uneasy in this still windless night
the only sound is the moving constellations
I contemplate far too much I suppose
rather than adore natures presentations

in the woods not far away the streams
babble trying to loosen timeless stones
the wildlife sounds sleepless as well
in dark shrills and mysterious tones

long into darkened night I know I will lay
awake in thoughts and shiftless dreams
yet the woods around me emotes
the same way it seems

while most sleep soundless this night
contorts in fits and broken dreams
where unfinished nightmares await me
until first light tears at the seams

It's okay though I came to understand the patterns
years and years ago
much like the mysteries of mythology
a moral will always show

perhaps tomorrow a nap in the warm shadows
all the planets are resting that I may too
tonight though I am awake and aware
watching waiting this long night through

Sleepless nights are not fun, but your poem about it conjures all kinds of images and I enjoyed it.

Sleepless nights, a time for reflections of long ago, childhood and beyond. Thought provoking as usual. good night..

This was very interesting, I enjoyed your descriptions of a sleepless night and the connection of the constellations. I liked this and am glad you shared it with us.

      P.S. Sweet dreams! (hopefully)

Great poem. Very visual. I don't know why it has to be in bold.
