Poets Have Been Very Still On the Subject of Cheese

Updated on December 18, 2011

The dairy delight

Either yellow or white

... or blue for that matter

Which I really rather...

Love with a salad

Or baked onto bread

It goes to my head...

Poets just don't mention cheese!

It rythms with bees

Or knees if you please.

So why can't they?

The kind with holes,

Or the kind with molds.

The hard kind to grate.

Make no mistake...

I would read it!

Creamy with curds

Not too good for words.

Or lyric or prose

For all of those...

Like me who really love cheese!

On a sandwitch with soup

Not a news worthy scoop

But yummy to the tummy

I love cheese!

A poem for this food

Would set the mood

To feel just fine

With a glass of wine...

Served with a platter of cheese!

Run, are you sure you're not a hobbit? This sounds like it belongs in LOTR, lol! You and Hyph have messed me up today, I'm off the grocery store.

Oh give me cheese or give me death

Let my biscuit or my brisket never

be lacking of such a delight as

      Blue,cheddar, feta,bleu or brie.

Tis the snack of royal and noble

      courts placed before them amongst

the apples, pears, grapes and mead.

So I plead to thee bring on more

cheese please and I will favor

us with the grape of your choice

of Red White or Rose flavors.

Voted UP and awesome, loved your cheese selection indeed.

Nice rhyming poem, I don't eat cheese anymore and maybe that's why I don't use it in my poetry writing, good question though. Voted up!

Howdy RunAbstract - Here I am, late to the table on which you have spread a repast that would have caused Shakespeare to burst his belt. ...really a fun poem. Thanks.

What a wonderful (not cheesy at all) tribute to cheese for all of us cheese connoisseurs out here in cheese wonderland. Have a wonderful christmas (filled with wine, cheese and cheer) and happy new year.

Lovely and no subject deserves verse more than cheese!

I wrote a poem called "Ben Gunn's Lament" about cheese (or the loss of it) once, but I don't have it to hand. keep up the good work you have talent...Bob
