Changes they are a coming !!!!

As I sit here wondering what my future will be…

Boxing up all my memories, isn’t easy you see…..

I can only take one, as my new space is small…

But I guess I'm lucky to have any space at all…

I was told as a child, when Nana’s time came..

She was allowed to take more or less, of the same..

I look forward to making new friends in this new place of mine..

As the government makes the decisions as to when it's our time..

Marriage doesn’t exist….it’s a thing of the past..

Wanting children is a thought, that doesn’t really last…

The idea of owning a home you see, is not reality..

We can only have what we are allowed ...

As we are one of many faces in the crowd..

I will be leaving tomorrow on my quest…

Living out my life with the rest..

Society says people over FORTY are no longer of use...

The old and sickly ? No… that’s an excuse….

The perception of what's "old" is getting younger each day….

I only hope that in some way soon…this thought will go away..

And the future will become the past…as I just turned forty today !

PS..It has been reported " old age " starts earlier each generation..just ask someone under 30..

PS...I personally did not turn 40, but, I'm sure there's someone that did !

I definitely see the discrimination against older people happening. My old job did its best to push out the older people and they were placed with younger people who would work for less money. I think at some point you have to start becoming financially dependent on yourself and look to starting your own business.

Vickiw.. Thank you for stopping by and commenting..I too feel there are many over the age of 65 that could contribute to society, especially to the school system of today.... teachers today can use the extra help, as they are overwhelmed....have a great day and thanks for becoming a fan...

I loved your poem; it was thoughtful and a little sad. I have very dear older friends, and admire them so much. I do believe age is a state of mind. As one of them ( a trim 86 year-old) said to me yesterday, "you just have to keep moving."Such wisdom. I don't think you would hear that from a younger person, anyone under 30!

I liked this poem very much. Respect is taught and the lack of it is handed down by generation to generation.

Well I wanted to tell you Happy Birthday, just in case:) I know when I write poems, they are not always about me. This was an awesome heart felt poem. A lot of the values that you mentioned have been lost over the years. I was born in 83 and I still abide by such values. So important in a world that no longer values such things. I can completely understand this KJ. Hope you have a great weekend:) Deep, deep poetry!!

shinimgirisheyes.....I thought the poem was appropriate due to how society treats most of the elderly..even some families push them to the sidelines..useful only when they need something....thanks for the comparison of me to fine wine...I am drinking a glass right now...thanks for your comments...

Ha Ha! And I turned 21! LOL

I have enjoyed my most endearing lasting relationships with distinguished "older" folks. I have always had a kinship - even as a small child preferring the company of my Nana. She passed at 101 and was still teaching me valuable lessons until her dying breath.

You need to come and visit us in Upstate New York. My 84 year old Mom is great friends with so many of my friends as well as my older siblings friends. I have also attended many of her friends get-togethers and I had a hard time keeping up with them!

Some of the younger crowd can hardly put together an english word let alone a complete sentence yet your artistic poetry is masterfully accomplished.

You are like a fine wine my friend - you get better with age.
