Portrait of a Sailor

Updated on December 20, 2012

A haggard face
weather beaten by time.
Long days at sea
roughen the skin.

Glistening shiny eyes,
bright sunshine
reflects off the water.
Straining the pupils
to see the horizon
deep crow feet
etched in the corners.

Unshaven stubble
on the chin of men,
who love the sea.

Thin and bony
tough and hard.
Lean and solid
Strong and sour.
A life well known
to the men of the sea.
