Like a Hard Summer Rain

Updated on June 28, 2016

Emotions pour from my suffering soul.

as rain from the skies above,

They trickle down, to reach the ground,

a mixture of hate, and of love.

The sadness I've felt, cards that I've been dealt,

all is a part of each life,

A tougher and stronger spirit is honed,

amid all these trials and the strife.

Pour down on me. old Summer rain,

just soak me through and through,

Cleanse my pain, with your help I gain,

and a new life because of you.

My hard feelings I shed, with hope, filled instead,

I look to the day, anew,

That old feeling of helplessness, once got me down,

and then away it flew.

REFRAIN: POUR down on me...

Rain on me. my friend from heaven's own door,

please wash my spirit clean,

Remove the soil from a life of toil,

then a brighter sun shines, with its sheen.

I will lift my head, in the days to come,

for a new hope you have given to me,

As I gaze beyond fields, of which I'm so fond,

it's a golden horizon, now I see.

REFRAIN: Pour down on me...

With the last rains of Summer and a coming Autumn near, the long and hard rain of yesterday, inspired this poetry and to reread it once again.
