Precious Time

Updated on September 10, 2013
Me at the age of four
Me at the age of four

She came to him in the early morning

Tousled hair and giggles

He groaned still bleary eyed

And she pounced upon him

And laughed in his eyes

Blankets and pillows

Danced about

He just couldn’t resist her

Her blond curls, blue eyes, and red lips

Small hands circled this neck

And sticky wet kisses rained upon him

Laughing and groaning he tried to shake her off

And that was when his wife came to the door

She grabbed the precious little bundle

And ordered her to dress

Then reminded him of how much she loved him

Sunday mornings were family time

And he was glad to spend it

In the company of the two ladies

Who shared his life

He had never known

That the joys of childhood

Could be so very simple

Coloring books and crayons

The simple joy of running about

As he tried to find some time for work

He kept listening for her little feet

Come scampering to the door

His wife would just laugh

She loved it when her daughter

Became daddy’s girl on the weekends

He greatly hated weekday mornings

When his little princess

Would wrap herself about him

To kiss and to cuddle

So he couldn’t get out the door

She seemed to imagine

That he was going far away

And to her the time from morning to night

Seemed as endless

As from one end of the country to the other

Finally he managed to leave

As her tiny tearstained face

Appeared in the window

Beside his wife who blew him a kiss

This is absolutely beautiful. My dad died when I was 8 and I still miss him. My husband and I raised two daughters and watching him with our daughters was awesome. It is truly a special relationship.

Oh, how very beautiful. Your title says it all for time is so very precious and it seems so fleeting indeed. I just love your photo of you at four ...his little princess. Life is truly so short, we must not take a minute for granted.

It truly seems just like yesterday that mine children were just three and now they are grown and now my grands are that age already!

Thank you for sharing of your precious memories.

      Up and more and sharing

      God bless, Faith Reaper

What a darling photo of you as a little girl. Time flies by in a whisper it seems, until we remember those precious times that we carry with us always. I loved this poem. :-) Voted up ++.

yes, those are the best memories

      moments when we can recall

even the look in the father's eye

or the sound of her mothers voice..

      beautiful forever,!
