Pretty Blue Eyes

Updated on September 25, 2013

It still ached every time

He thought of her

Her with eyes the bluest

Like a brilliant summer sky

Growing up together

He remembered when she moved in next door

The biggest, bluest eyes he had ever seen

She looked his way

And became his love forever

There was nothing he wouldn’t do

When she smiled his way

Day of skinned knees

When he kissed away the tears of pain

That streamed from her blue eyes

Until the day when they were thirteen

She held his hand

It trembled like that of a tiny bird

And looked at him with glazed blue eyes

Her family was moving

She was going away

The last time he saw her

Was from the back of the car

Pretty blue eyes

Brimmed over with tears

He was the loneliest high schooler

Always dreaming of his blue eyes

Her letters got him through his days

And he wondered if they’d ever meet again

Just before graduation

Came the last letter

It said something about overseas

And then it was like she had never been

He’d dream about blue eyes

And see her everywhere

He was the loneliest young man around

There were thoughts of growing old

Of never knowing where she was

Perhaps they’d never find each other

Perhaps they’d meet beyond the stars

In heaven up above

Suddenly the sun went behind the clouds

Making the day as gray

As the mood he was in

He came back from daydreaming

As his computer screen sounded

Flashing a message

An email had arrived

And as he looked to see what is was all about

He saw that it was from his blue eyes

It was from the girl who filled all of his dreams

She was back and his heart skipped a beat

They met once; they met to be there for one another

There was no doubt they were soul mates

Bound to one another forever

I was reading this and it dawned on me that I never dated a woman with blue eyes....how strange is that? Well, regardless, this was beautiful but then I expect nothing less from you.

Wonderful poem. All the right notes were struck perfectly. I don't know why but I just knew a love like that would not die. Thank you much sweet Gypsy.

What a special story. I think we all meet someone special. That one we ask over and over, why did it not happen? Why could we not be together? Lovely ending. Thank You!

      You can't beat blue eyes.

Love and it's winding path beautifully told. You always portray a full story within a poem which is really quite a feat. You do it very well.

Excellent flow with the right touch of emotion; blue eyes like puddles of crystal clear water, and yet, swallowing you whole like dark blue seas.
