Prose - Buddhism

Updated on November 11, 2011

Do you kill
Or do you love?
Can you be both?
Or neither?
Can you suffer
Without desire?
Can you desire
And not suffer?
Can you love suffering?
Can you hate desire?
Will desire
Kill you?
Will suffering
Give life?
Without desire
You cannot love
Without suffering
You cannot feel
Are you afraid
Of pain?
Is pain life?
Or death
Do you even understand
The things you say?
Or what you wish
To be?
The mountaintop
Is lonely
And causes pain
In those
Who need you
Is this life?
To eliminate
Will you dig
Until you cannot see
The sun
Or the stars?
What did you prove?
When you became
To passion?
Is it
The way
To end
All desire?
To end
All need?
To end
All experience?
To end
All feeling?
To end
All touching?
To end
All wanting?
To end
All expectation
In you?
I cannot
End desire
Or suffering
I cannot end life
Why can you?

@qlcoach - I appreciate your kind remarks. It seems that what is real is what evokes a strong emotional response in all of us and pain is very much a part of that.

@Beata - That is true. Life is not fair at times yet we all enjoy blessings and luck too.... it is the selfishness of mankind that creates the expectation of nothing but bliss....

Just like 'qlcoach' said for every happy moment there is a painful moment...there is no happiness without suffering...people often cry when struck with incurable illness or tragedy: "I didn't deserve this." And yet when they plan exotic holiday or buy new plasma TV, they say: "I work hard, I deserve this." They don't realise you cannot have one without other.

Pain exists; beauty exists. For me the way is all about finding that balance between mind, body, and spirit. Enjoyed your wisdom. Peace and Light...Gary. Oh, might you be interested in my poem, "What I Know?"
