Prose - How Can It Be?

Updated on September 11, 2011

See if you can catch my drift
It’s not going to be so easy to see
You’re gonna say, “He’s a hater”
But is it really you or me?
You give power to a small little man
He’s got a hang-up but still you trust
He’s going to make his ruling
And you will insist it is just

How can it be?
A person who begs can know so much?
How can it be?
A person who cares can hate so much?
How can it be?
How can it be?

It really all came from your life
And now you’re lookin’ for someone to blame
You can’t fit in anywhere
So you rewired your brain
You think and type in your anonymity
An internet troll who is so very brave
You tell us how stupid we all are
Then you retreat to your little cave

How can it be?
A person who begs can know so much?
How can it be?
A person who cares can hate so much?
How can it be?
How can it be?

You ridicule those who pray
You say they believe in magic
Because they ask an invisible God to help
While you laugh during something tragic
Your words cut those who you reject
You’re never wrong even if you lied
You have nothing to lose so you talk
But I wonder who’s paying for your ride?

How can it be?
A person who begs can know so much?
How can it be?
A person who cares can hate so much?
How can it be?
How can it be?

Have you become the monster that you fight?
You compare yourself to Gandhi or King
Not knowing the love they carried in their hearts
Rejecting the bitter song that you sing
You decided you have it all figured out
The world’s secrets are now in your hand
You point fingers at anyone with a smile
Because you think they stole someone’s land

How can it be?
A person who begs can know so much?
How can it be?
A person who cares can hate so much?
How can it be?
How can it be?

We want to change the world
But you make us look bad
We don’t need your help
Your actions just makes us sad
Because you don’t understand love
You pretend while you stick the knife in
You want to destroy everything around you
But we want love to grow flowers in the garden

How can it be?
A person who begs can know so much?
How can it be?
A person who cares can hate so much?
How can it be?
How can it be?

You sit up there upon the hill

      Looking down your nose

      Not understanding the consequence

You'll reap from what you sow

You may have fooled most of us

But the Suburban Poet's not a fool

He'll expose you for what you are

His use of words will be his tool.

Great read! Voted up, awesome, and interesting!

@K. Burns Darling - Just keeping an eye on the extremists. They are all around us... the right.. the left... I wish rational people had a voice. Thank you for the nice comment.

To question the truths that lie ahead of us, not many can, not many do yet you certainly have. Bravo.

@QudsiaP1 - Thank you. I want some answers too...

@snakeslane - Ha... yeah I'm going for it lately. I have a lot I'm thinking about. There's a lot to question... as always.
