Prose - I Wish For One Day

Updated on October 10, 2011

I wish for one day
I could understand
How electricity
Becomes a pixel

I wish for one day
I could be in the mind
Of the man
Who wrote a Gospel

I wish for one day
I could be as strong
As a man
Arrested for being black

I wish for one day
I could see the plane approach
From the window
During a terrorist attack

I wish for one day
I could feel
The pain
Of an abandoned child

I wish for one day
I could know
The truth
Even if I was reviled

I wish for one day
I could be as brave
As a fireman
Who ran up the stairs

I wish for one day
I could know
If God
Really answers prayers

I wish for one day
I could say
I’m sorry
To all those I hurt

I wish for one day
I could see the notes
In my mind
Just like Mozart

I wish for one day
I could be
An extraordinary
Human being

I wish for one day
I could know
What an innocent man
Is feeling

I wish for one day
I could look at my paper
And see words
That will inspire others

I wish for one day
I could take the pain
That for so long
Was my mothers

I wish for one day
I could march
Up to a tank
For peace

I wish for one day
I could know
When all hate
Will finally cease

I wish for one day
I could know
The possibilities
Of all we can be

I wish for one day
My life's work
Was about someone else
And not just about me

      @justmyopinionto - Thank you... that's a very positive outlook.

@Xeononlit - Thank you. I am honored that you shared this poem...

@maven - Yes... if wishes could only be reality. Some of the lines were intended to shock myself into some sort of consciousness... by witnessing moments in history or knowing the truth behind legends... I like that Benton line...

@Eiddwen - Thank you AGAIN for your kind remarks. I hope to be here a long time... or should I say... "I wish..."

@PenMePretty - Thank you! Ahhhh.... I'm just like everyone else... it's something that popped into my head. I'm just weird sometimes. I don't know where the ideas for expression come from....

@Teylina - Thank you! The statue? Maybe. It went through mine....

Up and awesome--wonder if any of this is what's going through 'the Thinker's mind? Hah. Inspiring. Thank you.

You are an extraordinary human being...to write this. And, I believe part of the knowing of each of these one days is in you. Great work.

I liked the staccato rhythms and the focused thoughts behind them...I wish for one day when instead of I wish it becomes I will which becomes I did...

Your pic reminded me of a line from Walter Benton: " Like God striking a match across the cathedral ceiling "...

      Thank you for this...Larry
