Prose - I Wish For One Day
I wish for one day
I could understand
How electricity
Becomes a pixel
I wish for one day
I could be in the mind
Of the man
Who wrote a Gospel
I wish for one day
I could be as strong
As a man
Arrested for being black
I wish for one day
I could see the plane approach
From the window
During a terrorist attack
I wish for one day
I could feel
The pain
Of an abandoned child
I wish for one day
I could know
The truth
Even if I was reviled
I wish for one day
I could be as brave
As a fireman
Who ran up the stairs
I wish for one day
I could know
If God
Really answers prayers
I wish for one day
I could say
I’m sorry
To all those I hurt
I wish for one day
I could see the notes
In my mind
Just like Mozart
I wish for one day
I could be
An extraordinary
Human being
I wish for one day
I could know
What an innocent man
Is feeling
I wish for one day
I could look at my paper
And see words
That will inspire others
I wish for one day
I could take the pain
That for so long
Was my mothers
I wish for one day
I could march
Up to a tank
For peace
I wish for one day
I could know
When all hate
Will finally cease
I wish for one day
I could know
The possibilities
Of all we can be
I wish for one day
My life's work
Was about someone else
And not just about me
