Prose - May I Disturb You?

Updated on January 17, 2011

May I Disturb You

I have a question for you
Which mind would you care to view?
One that is cautious and considered
Or one unafraid of how things are delivered?
I can tell you of loves obsessions
I can tell you of pains debilitations
But do you not wish to be disturbed?
May I gain audience however undeserved?
You may judge me to be unstable
But I bring an imagination that is able
To explore the depths of human emotion
While maintaining a focus that is unbroken
By life or even the thought of pain
Though I scour the abyss time and time again
Fear not for what I say
Even though with words I do not play
It is for each of us to decide
If we can enter the tunnel and ride
With one another in the chamber of our fears
And wipe away each other's tears
Revealing to one another our true selves
Listening intently as another soul tells
The tale of their woe and condition
Not as a sign of mental destruction
But as a hand reaching for you
Giving you the courage to start anew
Because we do not fear the dark possibilities
They will not destroy our tranquilities
Even though we acknowledge the obvious
That we tire of the normalcy latching onto us
And wish to explore the outer reaches of existence
And then come home wearing the cloak of deliverance
So I revisit my question to you
Can you take it or shall I shrink from view?
For we are poets and our task is obvious
Tell the tale and let others wonder about us
I can do it and remain a sane person uncolored by blue
I can do it... I wonder if you can do it too....

Thanks again Debbie... it's good not to have to explain... that's part of the challenge; to be able to envision a scenario and then write about it...

Hi. You don't have to reasure anyone that you're OK. You are healthily Honest.

And that is reasuring to us.

We pop over to read your work because we enjoy it, and not to see how you are.

When I read a poem, I wouldn't assume that it was personal. As I would die if anyone thought mine was, cos mine are mad... but then maybe there on to something hahaha

Only one of your poems was obvious. And you deserved all the supportive comments, it was beautiful.

The cloak of deliverance - always just one more word away. Your love of writing is so evident and I connect to your desire to deliver the truth unafraid. Well done...

      Examiner,

Fair enough... I must admit I was "shoot, ready, aim" when I joined this site... reading the instructions... wow... what a concept! Thanks for the advice...

Suburban Poet, I am not a moderator, although people sometimes think that. I am not even part of the Elite program, but I am interested in where the boundaries go. The TOS prohibit automated following, which is not an issue for you. The FAQs mention that your author score can take a hit if you "indiscriminately" follow many people - I suggest you read up on those things. Other than that, as long as your score looks healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. I follow less than 10 hubbers; you have a different approach. We can't be all things to all people. I think anyone who checks out your profile will realize that you do not fit the description of a spammer.

Thank you Examiner... yeah I think about a lot of stuff... too much... I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about things to write about. I'm not an insomniac but I think this website has really gotten in my blood.

Are you a moderator? Please let me know if I'm pushing the envelope because I'm not here to offend anyone or prove any particular point. I just want to express myself you know?

You write really well, obviously have lots on your mind, and deserve a wide readership. I do not consider you a "spammy follower." You remind me of Billyaustindillon on HubPages, who - while not a poet, I think - has lots of energy and is unusually active on the site. I wish you luck.

Thank you austinstar.... I think I'm not sure what's what... I've been told different things by different folks. But I'll take it!

Very well written, but not prose. This is definitely poetry.

Nayothara... I want to write honestly but I do have a few folks looking over my shoulder and it makes it difficult. There are many things that I write that are not autobiographical but it seems many people cannot relate to deep levels of empathy. I feel we as poets are able to put ourselves in anothers shoes and then write as if it happened to us. That's what I try to achieve. Thanks for following me.

We got to write without a fear, and surely honestly! In that case you are a poet of feeling in real sense.. I like what you have written.. Awesome!

How true...sometimes I feel I have to say to certain people, no this is not me...this is what I see through others...and then I put it into words for others to read.

Thank you Rolland... sometimes the poet wishes to explore the depths without making everyone wonder if he really lives there...
