Prose - My Rising Son

Updated on August 18, 2011

As a father
I could not be more proud
I don’t keep it to myself
I say it out loud
No matter what
You will always have my love
That is because
You were sent from heaven above
Even though we are apart
For days and days on end
You are always in my heart
Because of that the pain does mend
I think of you often
And wonder if you are happy or sad
You always have my approval
Because I am your Dad
As you begin the final step
From boy to man
I want you to know
I will help all I can
I want us to be close
In each and every way
You can call me anytime
And tell me what you have to say
I will always be there for you
I’m on your side
You don’t have to worry about that
For you are my pride
Just do your best
And always tell the truth
I will understand and forgive
The mistakes of your youth
I hope this is a new step
In our lives as father and son
I will always love you
For you are my rising sun

@Yeshuan - Thank you. I just tried to express myself in a way that was not too over the top or flowery for a 14 year old boy. No ambiguity needed here.

@saddlerider1 - Thank you for your support. I feel your suffering in your relationship. I TRULY hope you can continue to move towards each other. If he knows you love him then I say the battle is almost won. Don't justify your past; just offer your present and your future unconditionally. Show him you are an adult who can be counted on to offer support, love and guidance. I have to believe he wants to be close to his Father. And that is you.... you always will have my best wishes and prayers.

@Binaya - Yes it is from father to son. I'm very proud of him and we like to be together just doing whatever. I need him; as he needs me.

@Teylina - Thank you. Yes I love him very deeply. My heart is beating very loudly on this one. No question.

@Sunnie Day - Thank you... yes a loving and lucky father.... He'll be receiving this poem in a week or two at a school retreat. The parents were asked to write something for our children and I dropped it off today at the school....

Oh, SP, what a love, what a poem, what a photo! More than one father (or mother) will appreciate this being passed along. Beautiful; I can feel your heartbeat!

Suburban those were magnificent powerful loving and caring words from Dad to son. I feel the power and sincerity of your love and our children need to see that from us always. Be proud, you are his Dad and he will always respect that, even when times get tough.

I know I've gone and am still going through a tug of war with my 17 yr old son, yet we both know how much we both love each other and that is stronger than both of us. It binds us together as Father and son. Peace to you my brother, keep showing him your LOVE ALWAYS...
