"Providence" by Eric Wayne Flynn
"Providence"
A wonderful place for a poser to hide
Until he finds his stride
Then it feels like a happy home
Nurturing and even inspiring
At times divine
A good day spa
Rubbing out the kinks
Plenty of bars to grab a few drinks
Small and strong
It knows it's place
Beautiful, filled with flowers and grace
Like a good woman
She will give you what she gets
Every Buddy knows this
But I, just another shadow lurking
Dreaming of New York
What a cheat
You've got something good in the palm of your hands
She slaps some scents into me
Its a sunflower on Angell Street
It's smiling as I walk by
Daydreaming of Rome
Watching the Western world rise
Im at the Coliseum and I've got an extra large nacho
A man is fighting a Lion named "Life"
Excessive, when granted Providence everyday

I like the words here Eric and the switches in imagery and comparisons between dreams of New York and a gladiatorial challenge in the colosseum in Rome etc are interesting to say the least. You don't leave your poems thinking "that was light and frothy", and that's good. You challenge us to think about life and how we relate to all around us.
Interesting poem, I enjoyed every word and the fact it immediately put me in the mood to ponder. Jamie
