An Ode To Prufrock

Updated on April 6, 2017

Partition of experience and ignorant youth

There will be time

A generous calculation of the fool

This is not it at all

Crippling dread

Tongues of flame paralyzed by truth

Pleadingly, the mime evoked the muse

Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse

I grow old, I grow old

Esteem shattered by a fortuitous glimpse

The incarnation of age grasped for youth

Vanity’s counterfeit virtue pallid

A contradictory reflection-

The mirror reveals the elusive truth

I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker

Future’s unknowing fortune begs an urgent appeal

Age's consequence embitters an obstinate soul

Past but a coveted instant

Potential but a fading dream

And how shall I presume?
