When the floods come and wash over my soul

And my breath is taken away from me,

When the sunlight is darkened by the clouds of a rising storm,

And it seems you are nowhere to be,

When beacons and flashing lights say "stay away"

My heart says not to listen to the caution

And not to see the tomorrow today.

You gave me guidance through the storm

And instructions for the way

You gave me your words to live by

And gave me maps that had been true to form

And proven over time they were no lie.

But my heart is weak from the battle

And the rushing water has filled my soul

With doubt and confusion

Not knowing which way to go.

"Seek me early" your word does say

God help me find you in my battle

Shine your beacon my way.

The storm has overcome me and the water has risen high

So much to my souls dismay

That I can't feel your presence or know that you are nigh.

Lord please send a beacon my way

Hold my head above the water that has risen over my soul

And bring my breath back to me today.

Let my memory be my reviving

From all the times you came my way

With instructions and pathways you gave me to obey

I've learned to relinquish my path and my tomorrow

And my heart to you today.
