The old player piano clinks out a familiar old waltz sound

The saloon girls are prettied up and prancing all around

The herds have arrived, cowboys in town; the night’s a boon

Fun and good times to be had here in the Rusty Spur Saloon

Dusty cowpokes in off the Chisholm here to drink and play

Card sharks and gamblers here to win an ol’ poke’s pay

There’s dancin’, singin’, been goin’ on since early afternoon

Just some folks blowin’ off steam here in the Rusty Spur Saloon

Ol’ Sam’s at the bar, shining glasses and settin’ up red-eye shots

A Well-dressed slick deals the cards to win his share of pots

Curly Jones works fingers on the ivory turning out all the tunes

There’s something here for everyone at the Rusty Spur Saloon

In the corner two pokes is arguing over who shot Billy the Kid

One says he’s the man, the other claims it was a deed that he did

We all crowds around to hear knowing their both drunk as a loon

But they ain’t apt to cause no trouble here in the Rusty Spur Saloon

Sheriff Hill runs a clean town and don’t want no spats or fights

He’s quick to come a runnin’ and he’s quick to put out the lights

If trouble you come lookin’ for, you just might be in jail real soon

The sheriff says you must walk the line in the old Rusty Spur Saloon

Saloon girls move easily about the crowd barroom full of dusty pokes

They drink the red eye, flirt for a bit, and laugh easily at all the jokes

They’ll take you up stairs, dance you around, or just sing you a little tune

These are working girls just making money in the old Rusty Spur Saloon

A chair goes flying and a cowboy rolls on the floor yelling “card cheat!”

Whiskey, money, and cards go falling all around the people’s feet

Looks like things are out of hand; the sheriff will be coming over soon

He’ll straighten ‘em up and restore order here in the Rusty Spur Saloon

Sheriff Hill and deputies come in waving them big ol’ shotguns around

The sheriff warns the crowd and says he won’t tolerate trouble in town

Just keep it up and you’ll find yourself in jail sleeping it off until the noon

Your fun night will have quickly ended here at the Rusty Spur Saloon

It’s closin’ time and Sam wipes the tables and straightens up the chairs

Them pokes are headin’ to camp or takin’ a saloon girl up the stairs

But come on back in tomorrow, the bar will be open again by noon

We’ll have ourselves a party, here at the good ol' Rusty Spur Saloon

@saddlerider1...There sure are a lot of bad guys in your saloon vision, Ken...could be trouble! WB

Yup the old watering hole dances with spirits from the past and the keyboard tinkles out it's songs while Wyatt and the boys are back from the old corral. Billy the kid is playing in the corner, the Duke walks in with his swagger, Clint takes a long drawl of his cigar. Jesse James deals a one jack. The drinks are on the house from the bounty hunter who lays another to rest.

Loved this one Wayne, felt like I was sitting there holding my cards close to my chest:0) and one eye on Billy.

@dallas93444...quite a few folks have told me that I have a book in me. I think I will have to get on ADD medication to get it done...have some ideas though! Thanks for the kind words. WB

@KFlippin...I have been thinking about this one for a while. I couldn't decide on a shoot out, etc. so I just kind of let it flow. Every once in a while I like those last sentence refrains for emphasis! Glad you like it! WB

This is a fun one, Wayne, the rhythm just keeps you moving, and you definitely find yourself in the Rusty Spur full of dusty cowpokes, and I like the use of refrains (suppose that's the right word!) in this one. KF

Did ole Rusty buy that saloon from Miss Kitty? I could swear I saw Festus sitting at the corner table sippin' saparilla.

Wayne Brown, instead of a Transcontinental Railroad you're building a Transcentury Railroad for us through all your wonderful wild west poems...such vivid trips back in time! ~ Laura
