While raining...!

Updated on July 19, 2014

a deed...

a need...

Heading homeward

In all anxiety

To outbeat heavy downpour

With hurrying steps

Trickled by thick water-drops

Nestled I

In a hut in the vicinity!

The sky with all its fury

Fountained the ones left at its mercy!

Jerking at

The tugging of my skirt

Scared I

A little one

Holding my skirt-tip

With her little fingers

Ready to offer

A shawl on the other hand!

Smiling,

Threw I a curious look

And spotted a tiny tot

Stretching out a half-bitten biscuit;

Further,

A middle-aged man

Stroking a toddler to sleep -

I saw -

Also an old lady shivering

Beneath a holed-blanket!

They aren't a family

I gathered,

(in the course of the time)

Just a 'togetherness'

Of caring and sharing!

The warmth in their hearts

Just swept away the chillness outside!

Here, at this very spot,

Realized I my mission -

Of uniting my community

For the welfare of the needy!

Holding my head high

Homeward I went!

For some, it's so much easier to walk by and pretend that they just don't see. Wonderful poem, I can almost touch the rain, loved the imagery and the message.
