Raining on the Roses

Updated on March 28, 2015

There was the pain again

in my heart

ever since you went away

and today it was raining on your roses

the tears coursed down my cheeks

as the raindrops fell from your roses

the world seemed to be crying too

it missed you as much as I do

the angels came one day

and it was to say

that your home is in heaven now

but I must stay

since then I have been looking after

the roses you planted so long ago

I have learned to live alone

knowing you are still with me

in the dark of night

I wander back to the days of you and me

seeing us so happy and in love

incredible how the years have flown

there we were dancing

for the first time under the starry sky

when you smiled at me

and told me you loved me

how my heart flooded with tenderness

and we kissed beneath the full moon

it was then that I knew

you were made for me

I wouldn’t have made it as far as I have

if along the road

I didn’t have your hand to hold

your smile letting me know everything was alright

I should have known

that you’d be the first to get your calling

you always were such a fragile soul

this strange world wasn’t meant for you

how I wished I could bring back

the simple days the happy times

just for you my love

but I never could

I feel you beside me

day by day

it has brought me happiness and contentment

I only cried today

because it was raining on your roses

I liked this letter to a departed one. The roses will thrive from the spring rain, even though the petals too must one day fall to the earth before another season.

      Thank you Manatita.

Thank you Demas I like how you explain it that too is a poignant way to look at it. It has always seemed to me that roses bloom for such a short time.

      You welcome Ms. Dora.
