Rebecca (poem)

Updated on May 31, 2013

Rebecca was my meaning for the day

Rebecca held my heart within her hand

And all I was laid under her command

Rebecca was where all my thoughts would play

-

Each morning saw me waking at her side

And in the night beside her I would fade

My world with her was one I wouldn’t trade

A world where all my problems would subside

-

Rebecca was the answer to my prayer

Though others often pointed out her chinks

I laughed proclaiming all their warnings junk

-

Yet in the dark hid truth I came to bear

Rebecca was the name I gave to drinks

And by her side I soon became a drunk

Oh, I really wasn't expecting that. How very powerful. I really ought to know by now to expect the unexpected on HP.

Sometimes people cannot escape that iron grasp or that pull. Your poem holds much merit.

Wow! Love the metaphor. Some do love their alcohol as if it were a woman. Very sad and gritty poem - but so clever and different.

A very dark poem, beautifully expressing a painful addiction. Bravo to your courage!

This super sweet and romantic account of your love for Rebecca was beautiful the first time around! I had to read a second time to appreciate 'Rebecca in liquid form'. Very creative and Addicting!

Martin, I know of few families who have not been affected by the destruction of alcoholism. Its reach goes far beyond the person

who takes the drink. It destroys lives, families, and relationships.

It undermines all that a person holds dear.

Children, raised in homes where alcohol is abused, can lose their moral compass and their sense of what is their foundation of life.

You brought this subject out of the dark and portrayed it as the deceiver of men. You personified its hold on a person.

Another brilliant work by the master of poetic verse.

      Thank you,

      DJ.

Great hub and very relatable. We've all had a "Rebecca" in our lives.

Yes, Rebecca will take you to places you don't want to go, all the way to rock bottom for sure.

Sad reality of the disease of addiction to alcohol.

      Voted up ++ and sharing

      God bless, Faith Reaper
