Remembering On Memorial Day

Updated on May 28, 2012

This Memorial Day let no hero go unsung

Let’s remember each and every one

This Memorial Day let’s keep in mind why we celebrate

Let’s send up a prayer of thanks for what they’ve done

They’ve helped in their bravery

To make sure that the red, white and blue

Flag still flies high in the sky

And the eagle still soars over the home of the free

This Memorial Day wherever possible

Let’s light candles and lay wreaths by the many graves of the fallen

Let’s keep them in fond memory

For what they’ve done for the U.S.A.

This Memorial Day let’s remember those who are no longer with us

All the grandfathers, fathers, brothers, sons and uncles

All those who were once near and dear to us

Let’s silently salute them and praise them for what they’ve gone through

This Memorial Day let’s remember those who have survived

The many heroes who were lucky enough to return to us

Let’s shake their hands and give them great hugs

Tell them that we love them and appreciate what sacrifices they have made

This Memorial Day let’s remember those who are still off fighting for our country somewhere

Let’s send up our prayers to the Lord and ask that they come home soon

This Memorial Day let’s stand shoulder to shoulder

And praise all these wonderful soldiers and let them know that they have not been forgotten

This Memorial Day let’s remember why our flag still waves

And let’s salute them all the fallen and those who are still with us

Let’s remember what they’ve done for the home of the brave

Let’s send up our prayers to the Lord for those who lie in still graves

And say thank you that they are at peace

And will remain forever more in our hearts

Let the flag of the U.S.A.

Forever wave over the land of the free

We salute all the brave heroes

And never will we forget

Awesome! I think there are so many of us that get wrapped up in all the holiday BBQs and picnics and we tend to forget the whole purpose of Memorial Day.

Thank you for this precious tribute, and memorial day hub for our fallen Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines.

I'm a Naval veteran myself, and so truly I feel for those who've suffered a loss in their military family, or have for those who've sacrificed and given their life for our country, and to protect & serve us from enemies of foreign lands.

Its not easy of a time to celebrate for most, and therefore your hub fits perfectly at such a time. Voted up and out!

Thank you Gypsy for a beautiful poem and an important reminder. My father died two years ago of old age, but he spent 25 years in the Air Force serving and protecting our country. He was a load-master and organized, loaded and unloaded cargo planes full of supplies for our troops in Viet Nam.

He was a Polish immigrant and as a boy lived through the Nazi and Soviet invasions of Poland. He loved and appreciated America and was always quick to express his gratitude. Thank you for this Hub. Sharing. Theresa

Thank you so much for enjoying this Kris. For me it's easier to reflect because we don't have a Memorial Day weekend but the U.S.A. is my homeland and my parents went through all the horrors of WW II and found a new life there. So this is all close to my heart. Hope you're having a Happy Memorial Day.

Thank you so much for your great comment Mike and I salute you. Being away from it all it is easier to remember and get inspired and feel for all those many heroes the ones who passed on, the the ones who survived, and the ones still on duty. The U.S.A. is my homeland and I'm proud of the fact.

Thank you so much for your great comment Theresa. Hugs to you for having such a brave father. I salute him in memory. My parents too went through all sorts of horrors in WW II and the U.S.A. gave them a new home and a new life. I will always have a love for my homeland and its brave heroes. God bless them one and all.

A beautiful verse...needless to say! Being not from the States, today I would like to share something with you Rasma and all my friends here...

My respect for all of you and your country has increased by the fact that you honor your heroes with such warmth and regards

in my country, a handful of such occasions happen.. in fact they have ceased to happen... engulfed in corruption and other malpractices we ignore those who protect us.. but you guyz do not...

      hat's off...

Thank you so much Rahul. Yes, we do remember and honor those who deserve. It's sad to hear that you do not have these time honored traditions in your country. I will say that here is Latvia we also have days of remembrance but my heart still belongs to my homeland the good ol' U.S.A. However I do respect my parents' homeland.
