Requiem and Death Part 1

Updated on September 5, 2011

An Adventure....Begins....

Neanderthal

I held a class a long time ago, dealing with "Requiem"....

It would seem a subject that only appeals to those that know what a requiem is...as well as those that look through peeking fingers...because they have a fear....or that the subject...is taboo...

Death...as a subject...is a way of death...simply put.

Of course...there was a life...before that end...

Questions I asked myself dealt with death a long time ago. Crossing the Veils is never but a flutter of curtains away and just as thin.

I often think that death, as a subject...should be held in quiet rooms with like-minded individuals...who could relate to the subject with an open mind...as well as not bringing in the emotions...

so, with THAT in mind...with you...I now present....

our new topic:

Requiem...and...Death

Are we ready? Good. Please, darken the room...light some incense...and a small candle and get comfy, settle down with a warm cup of tea...or whatever is your beverage...of choice, ....and...listen....

to the ending heartbeat....

slower,

........slower...

............. s l o w e r ...

........................ s l o w.....

Very good, listen now to my voice and keep in the mind..that you are in a safe sanctuary...

we begin...with the end....and the beginning...

Imagine, with your "Inner Eye" that you are in a very large, spacious room. All the walls are white and the heavy wrought iron sconces on the far wall house the lit candles. The pieces of furniture are lost in the expanse of the room. There is a huge king size bed, canopied and heavy velvet curtained, tied back with silk ropes. The quilts are so thick, one would be swallowed in the laying down upon the bed. Pillows are fluffed and plumped. The curtains surrounding the bed begin to flutter with the incoming breeze.

The armoire on the far wall faces the right side of the bed like a soldier on sentry duty. It's intricately carved bulk is also lost in this room. The fireplace, made of large stones and heavy beam is unlit but ready for the match to strike. It is to the left side wall, facing the bed. Its open maw filled with logs and tinder. The fireplace tools are hooked and ready for use.

You stand beside a small reading table and face the windows. You hair is touched by the first strains of the rising winds. Tall Gothic windows with billowing white sheer curtains waft into the room, the sweet smell of fresh blooms accompany the breeze. Both the curtains and the bed sheers under the velvet curtains, do a windswept dance. The taste of salt water assails the senses as the waves crash on the cliffs below. A storm and the tides are coming in. The skies turn silver grey as the storm cell clouds grow taller. In the distance, the first rumbles of thunder sound. The seagulls scream at the storm and incoming waves. You need not "see" these things, it's happening. You can "feel" the storm coming. You, Dear One, are safe and secure within the walls of this mansion. The sheer curtains whip with the stronger breeze. You debate whether to seal the windows or let the air cleanse the spacious room. Lightening cracks, bright, bold and close. It rattles the sconces on the walls, the lit candles flickers and is devoured by the strong breezes. Winds whip, thunder rolls, slow and steady, followed by another crash of the surf and a huge bolt of lightning. Nature screams her name out loud and all fear her tempest anger.

Now....

.imagine...

.....the very spot you stand on houses

...............no mansion,

........................no white room,

...........................no curtains,

........................ .....no bed,

...................................no armoire,

................. ..................no reading table.

You feel different. Your senses are alive and your thoughts harbor nothing of a future life. You...are from a time far beyond the histories on mankind. You have journeyed...

...............................back....

....................................back....

.......................................back...

.......................................*BAM*

Another clap of thunder jars your senses. You now realize...you...are not alone. In your hands you hold a large conch shell bowl. Its pearly pink insides fades to white iridescence. It's dome has been removed and smoothed with many hands over the years. It is a vessel for healing. You realize, you are being depended on. The shell bowl is stuffed with seaweed and salt water. The winds whip the bottom edges of your furs. You, protect the contents of the conch bowl.

Next to you is a fur-clad, large head, strong muscled human-like creature. You both see the other and together seek the skies for peace. The storm is building, the ledge you both stand upon seems too close and with the clap of thunder and the crackle of lightening, you both back away in fear from the precipice. Waves surge and crash, sending windswept sprays of the ocean upon the ledge. Your heartbeat is racing and you feel....fear. A scream of fury mingles with the death cries of a once live creature and you and the other...race for the nearby cliffs. Safety in a cave is much better than being out here...in the open.

As you approach, other fur-clad creatures beckons you to hurry. Inside a small camp fire is burning. the silhouettes of others set back in the cave's recesses shows on the faces, their concerns.

One of their own....

.....................is dying.

The once vibrant hunter is finding it hard to fight this final creature. Death is coming. The storm foretells the fury and the honor. His people will not stray far. They await his end. He is delaying the inevitable. Each labored breath brings him

..................closer...

.............................closer...

....................................closer...

You approach the prone body by the fire. He is laid on furs from many hunts. he is naked except for his waist fur. His weapons and sling lie next to his arm. His young mate seeks the answers with your arrival. She has hope. She has love. She has nothing if her mate dies. Customs and cultures have succeeded to infiltrate this band of nomads. They seek a better hunting ground. The land is angry all the time. the ground splits and spits red rivers of death. Burn scars are on each of them, marking them, forever, that they came from a place too dangerous to stay. Out of many families that started off together, only these few remain.

These few, survived. These few, used their wits and knowledge. These few feel alone in a vast angry land, bordered by ice and cold on one side and the promise of the hunt farther to the south fires of the sun on the other. They seek game and are hungry. The hunter, wounded from a team of long toothed wolves is dying. There is a soft shuffling of feet and each member of the remaining band begin to circle the ones that have just arrived. That is you....and the other creature. Your knowledge knows some cures and poultices and you also have respect...deep respect on just how powerful nature is. The hunter on the furs has been wounded too badly to save. The bites were pretty bad and blood is flowing from his dying body. He seeks the entrance with his eyes, sees the lightning...and rides it back to the fury of the skies.

You now begin the task of separating his mate from the hunter's body. She touches her stomach and begins to cry. The circle of death dancers sweep into the trance of firelight and thunder crashes. Two, leave the circle and begin the task of digging a shallow grave. Their stone and stick jab the earth till it cracks and gives up a portion of herself. From the womb...to the womb. Sweat and dirt clings to the dancers as the sand and dirt is swept up because of their shuffling feet. By darkness' time, the hunter is placed within the fresh grave. Each has placed a piece of the hunters possessions with him. He will need his stone lance, his drinking bowl, his furs, and his other weapons and finally his leather thong he wore around his throat. The sling is handed to his mate. She knows what she must do and if she is to survive, she needs to learn fast, how to survive. A pregnant woman in these times were a burden. They were also revered. It meant another new hunter will be born. This group hopes for a male child. They hope to find a mate along this journey. By daylight, all have rested...and once again begin to trek. They have many moons to travel. The game trails show signs that they are close...so onward...they go.....

I now ask that you join with me...

..................back to the Inner Eye's Mansion....

....................................You are safe...

back within the confines of the massive white room...you have peeked...and now....believe...that all that lives...dies...and history...begins anew.

Thank you, Dear Reader...for the adventure....

To...be continued....Stay Tuned...you are just beginning....

...........................................Enjoy....the ride!
