Rescued by a New Love

Updated on March 31, 2015

So many years gone

like in a mud slide

incredible to believe

that so much love can turn to hate

together they built a life

held together by trust

just an old-fashioned story

full of love and glory

it was when the stars

held promises of distant wonders

that she changed ports

wanting to sail for a foreign shore

perhaps the grass was greener there

perhaps life easier

he told her home was where the heart was

home was where love was

distant as she became

he was saddened at the wasted years

his heart still full of love

his eyes now misted with tears and pain

so he let his sweet precious love

fly to where her hearts desire seemed to be

leaving behind an aging man

who cursed the day she came into his life

with no regret it seemed

out of his life she flew

he didn’t wonder what she would find

he wondered how he could go on

day by day things got easier

once he let go of the anger and the pain

wondering if someday

he might find room in his heart for a new love

sometimes it’s like a miracle

how people find one another

and one day he found a soul

just as miserable as he was

she too had lost her love

for reasons she didn’t understand

together they decided

to build new castles in the sky

then one day the storm clouds came

as his love handed him a letter

her eyes full of questions

her heart full of fear

he read the tender lines with a smirk

making a mistake

still loving him

could she come home again

together with his new love

he penned the poison lines

that she was his arsenic

not his saving grace

the next letter was a soggy mess

with more regrets than before

together they trashed it

and drank to their love

he heard nothing more

and it was just as well

now he dreamed new dreams

with a new love by his side

they complimented each other well

and were like a pair of bookends

in-between was their devoted love

that stretched to eternity

Building new castles in the sky. I love this, Rasma. He moved on and found his real true love. Very cool!

Once we've found someone, it's done. Never go back!

      Lovely poem.

So many people try to hold on and hang themselves in the process. Happy for this old man who let the old love go, and made space for the new one. Well done in both structure and subject!

Thank you Shauna. Well if he was left behind I think he'd be rather foolish to go back. Knew someone who did go back and got twice burned.

You sure were lucky Bill. May the stars keep raining luck on you both.

      Thank you Ann.

      Thank you Ms. Dora.

You welcome Eric. Lucky you to have found true love. Me and mine are going on 21 years.

      Thank you Sherri.

      Thank you Audrey.

Thank you Manatita. Blessings to you.

It's always great when love rescues Venkatachari.
