River Flow (poem)

Updated on December 8, 2014

A dream I had so very long ago

To join the wind which helps life’s river flow

To be a reason that the flowers grow

A helping hand which hope will come to know

I fell in love as other people do

I got a job to see my household through

I cared for wife and children as they grew

And for this while this was that dream came true

But in my sleep danced thoughts of long ago

Of something that I never quite saw through

Of something lost as other somethings grew

Its truth my world right now refused to know

And I grew old as other people do

There’s comfort in my now so daily flow

The dancing in my sleep with time would grow

But who I had become denied it’s true

Sorrow’s regret a friend that I would know

As flowers danced so cold did I now grow

And as I sat and watched the river flow

A dream I had so very long ago

Our lives are filled with dreams, longings, and what if another path had been taken. You put it all together so well and proficiently.

It's sad when life choices divert us from our dreams. Hopefully each of us will have the day when our dreams are within reach, just waiting for us to pick up where we left off.

Mhatter, another beautiful poem!... one day you may well join the wind that helps life's river flows, until then, every day is a blessing to cherish as are the wonderful memories, just keep dancing the dance.

      My best to you

This poem is so beautiful. It truly makes me stop and appreciate life's special moments and the time I'm given to dream and try to accomplish those goals. Thank you for this.

Mhatter99...first off LOVED the true are your words..your metaphor for life as we grow, like a river we move through, we sometimes past right through and never really grasped it.

our time here on earth as we know goes by so fast, we need to stop and savor it, stop and smell the roses, enjoy the happy times and hold on to those memories for the down times..kudos on a great write

Ahhh, Mh, beautiful and sad, watching the river flow. Yes, we all have to get older and it does go by so very fast, doesn't it. The song is perfect here.

You'll have to tell us about the significance of the river, as you do write it a lot in your poetry, and/or water. Well, the river of life . . .

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper
