Rock and Roll Beat

Updated on January 16, 2016

What are these thoughts on my mind?

like grasping fingers

holding on tight

music with a beat

somewhere from long ago

in my memory

feet longing to stray

and do a dance step or two

What are these thoughts on my mind?

wanting to put on my blue suede shoes

put on a rock and roll tune

while my feet tap

and a smile bright and sappy

What are these thoughts on my mind?

Old-fashioned rock and roll music

that makes my mind dance

I long for the melodies

that come to me

on the breeze

blowing through the trees

give me rock and roll music

inspire me

all those years of growing up

to that rock and roll beat

nothing inspires

like the rock and roll masters

tunes that never grow old

and never go out of style

give me that rock and roll beat

fill my mind with songs that are neat

just gotta be rock and roll music

to inspire me

Sigh.. ladyguitarpicker there will never be another Elvis but the impersonators can let us dream.

I grew up on and educated myself on rock and roll Missy Smith. It has put a smile on my face when I have needed it most. I do like all kinds of other music too though.

Totally agree with you Shauna. Rock sort of lost me after the 90s.

Glad you enjoyed it Genna. I guess you can say that a lot of rock especially the old time rock is something many of us can relate to.

"Just let me hear some of that rock and roll music..." No matter how old we become, rock 'n roll will always be a part of us. It's our rite of passage. I loved this poem, Rasma.

Love me some rock and roll! I grew up on it and still prefer it to any other genre. Older rock and roll, that is.

I love listening to old rock and roll. I love the Beatles. I can feel your tremendous love for this type of music. :)

Great poem on Elvis and the Beatles. Went to a concert last night it was an Elvis impersonator, it was not Elvis, but it brought back a lot of old memories.

Gypsy, you have a passionate and romantic heart. I could see you swinging away in this piece. You've presented the masters themselves. Short and charming!

Lovely poem! It reminded me of all those songs I used to listen while growing up.
