Romeo and Juliet a love that could not be

Updated on July 6, 2011

Long time ago
In Verona Italy
two families were fighting
they just could not agree

The Capulet’s
and the Montague’s
had been forever
in this feud

Then one good day
it happened again
another fight
between the men

The Prince of Verona
he stopped the fight
and made them see

That if this would happen
one more time
it would be for him
the end of the line

One more brawl
to be punished with death
without remorse
without regret

Count Paris went
the very next day
to Capulet
to have his say

The Count very much wanted
Capulet’s daughter Juliet
to become his wife
he wanted to get wed

Poor Juliet
only thirteen years of age
already to be wed
while she would rather wait

Thank heavens her father
did not agree
please wait two more years
he answered in a plea

now plans a ball
a big event
but not open to all

Now Romeo
from the Montague’s
wanted to go
despite the feud

And so he went
to the Capulet ball
where he met Juliet
the prettiest of all

After the ball
he could not go home
the thought of Juliet
would not leave him alone

So Romeo went
to the Capulet’s yard
and heard Juliet speaking
of her new found love

His heart lit up
and he made himself known
he finally found
a love of his own

He assembled courage
and asked Juliet
if she would maybe
wanted to get wed

She said yes
and so they did
the very next day
Juliet was his

Of course their marriage
was to stay unknown
their families were fighting
she would be disowned

Juliet’s cousin
Tybalt was his name
found it all out
and felt ashamed

He challenged Romeo
to a duel
Tybalt now his kinsman
that could not be well

So Romeo declined
he refused to fight
he decided to go
leaving Tybalt behind

Romeo’s friend
feels offended by Tybalt
and wants this life to end

He accepts the duel
on Romeo’s behalf
he takes the challenge
and looses his life

now takes revenge
Tybalt’s life
now has to end

He slays Tybalt
without regret
he lost his friend
Mercutio was dead

could only agree
since Mercutio
was royalty

The prince of Verona
was quite upset
one of his kinsman
now was dead

He exiled Romeo
he sent him away
And should he return
his death would await

The following night
Romeo and Juliet
spent the night together
sharing the same bed

then has to go
for he is exiled
they both know

Heartbroken and
utterly sad
she stayed behind
poor Juliet

Her father did
not understand
he wanted her happy
not so sad

He then decides
to have her wed
making Count Paris
very glad

Juliet then pleads
for the marriage to be delayed
her mother rejects her
it is too late

Juliet seeks help
and finds an aid
she gets a drug
so she will seem dead

A messenger is sent
to tell Romeo
that she isn’t dead
it will only seem so

The night before
the wedding takes place
Juliet now takes
the drug obtained

When discovered
apparently dead
they took her to the crypt
leaving all sad

The messenger who
was on his way
didn’t arrive
the following day

Instead Romeo’s servant
informs Romeo
that Juliet died

Romeo’s heart
breaks in two
he doesn’t know
what to do

The apothecary can
provide him with
poison that
can settle it

Romeo goes
to be with Juliet
a broken man
wanting to be dead

Count Paris is there
thinking Romeo a vandal
he fights him right there

then kills the Count
he wants to scream
he wants to shout

His life is over
with Juliet gone
he drinks the poison
and lays with his love

Then Juliet
opens her eyes
she can’t believe it
Romeo died

She takes his dagger
and ends her life
together forever
as husband and wife

Well this hub should have a million more comments. It's a beautifully written poem that rolls along nicely. I like rhyming too, it has a place as this poem demonstrates. cheers
