Rondeau for Waterfowl

Updated on August 20, 2013

They sail like ships, those ducks; they cruise

In search of prey in threes or twos.

Likewise, those geese in squadrons glide,

Those larger ships on which could ride

Some teddy bears, or so I muse.

They navigate; they will not choose

But steer a solemn course. Bemused,

I wonder at their lines, broadside.

They sail like ships.

And yet there are those times--they lose

A gallant member, not big news,

A feathered form one did not hide.

God took away its breath; alive,

The others carry on the cruise.

They sail like ships.

One of my favorite subjects to paint and take photos of, the waterfowl. Nice poetry, my friend. whonu

Thank you very much for your input. I already tried one comment from my iPod Touch and wasn't sure it was published, so I'm trying again. Thanks.

They do indeed sail like ships. Love this. And it is so entertaining to watch them gliding across the waters, effortlessly, stopping from time to time to score some delectable treat.
