Running to the Station - a short fun nonsense poem

Updated on February 4, 2015

This short nonsense poem was inspired by a man who commuted to the city from my local station each day and who ran late every morning and always had to run to catch the train.

Running to the Station

Running to the station

Gotta catch the train

slept through my alarm

and now I'm running late again

Racing up the station steps

and down the other side

Dodging people dawdling

My patience sure is tried

The train pulls in at Platform 4

as I leap to get on board

I stagger in the carriage

all the passengers applaud

This usually happens once a week

or maybe a couple a times more

Folks in my carriage are now taking bets

if I'll make it, and keeping score

Funny. There was this true incident when a man came to Mumbai, the busiest city in India, and got up on a local train. These trains are normally packed with office goers with barely a place to stand. The train that he got up on was a fast passenger with restricted halts. He wanted to get down at a station where the train wouldn't stop, but other daily commuters advised him that the train would slow down at the platform and he could get down but he had to run alongside the train for sometime or else he would stumble. He got down alright, but instead of running away from the train he ran parallel. He ran so fast that he reached the next compartment and commuters there thought he wanted to get up and pulled him back inside. The people in the earlier compartment upon seeing this had a hearty laugh all the way to their offices.

That's life for you, sometimes funny, sometimes stupid.

A funny poem I can relate to Marion. I used to always be running for the train when I had to catch it to work. Voted up.
