Sihouettes' Dance

Updated on November 24, 2014

By: Wayne Brown

Dancing, dark shapes; shadows to my prying eyes

Haunt the walls and windows wearing their disguise

Their dark form making motions cast in tones of mute

No sounds upon the wind; no music from the flute

Secrets told in shadows held tight in romance embrace

Flashes of light and darkness alternate in one place

First one then two, close, touching, emotions run high

Dancing in anonymity from prying eyes that spy

A love story in motion played out on the window shade

A watcher envies with jealous eyes of bright, green jade

A private moment; a tender kiss; not meant for the light

Love’s little secret thought hidden within the night

Not a word is spoken but the movements say it all

Mysterious dancing shadows upon the bedroom wall

Moments stolen; spent on a desired romantic chance

Cast upon the window shade, the silhouette’s dance

I am reminded of how we danced shadows in the night

Cast upon window curtains in the soft bedroom light

But that was many years ago, more than just a few

Time cannot take my memories of shadow dance with you

Now I move as a lonely shadow cast in solemn stance

Night shadows over your grave on your headstone dance

Death snatched you from our embrace; nothing left in trade

Now I sit alone watching other’s shadows dance on the shade

@Vincent Moore....Every time I went out to walk the dogs the phrase, "sillhoutte's dance" would flash in my mind. That went on for about a week before I took pen in hand and the verses emerged. Poetry is amazing in its own way. Thanks much VM! ~WB

The beauty of the dance, shadows and all. Where do two people in love get a chance to look deep into each others souls. The dance allows us to be natural and into each other at that moment in time. Oh to keep dancing would be such a delight to hold each other tight in embrace, never wanting it to end. Let those shadows follow our steps as we tango around the room together. Don't we just love the scent of a woman? Beautiful work my friend, I felt so relaxed and the video helped. Uwah.

This is hauntingly beautiful, the poem, the mellow music together very evocative. Nicely done.

Remembering a sensual memory of one who has passed. I hope I can recall and relive these moments as I advance through time. Another Wayne Brown original...

I reread it. By golly it does bring some closure and more likely a ray of hope. Loss can be so brutal and yet also open new chapters.

Lovely and beautiful but also sad poem. Memories like shadows dancing will always remain in the mind when another person has gone to the world beyond. Wonderful images. Great video.

@Minnetonka Twin...Thanks so much for those kind words. I am so glad that I could your interest fully. WB

@QudsiaP1...Say, like the silhouettes, the memories reflect off of things as well. Thanks much. WB

@Ericdierker...It was the last two verses which were added, Eric. Ironically, I thought the same thing when I finished it yesterday yet nothing more was forth coming. After I read your comment this morning, I just knew the poem had a deeper meaning and it could not deliver it on those four original verses...funny but the other two just immediately came to me when I could only draw a blank yesterday. I appreciate the help! Thanks much! WB

I can't say exactly where it ended when I made my comment. But I can say that on rereading it, I enjoyed it mucho. Probably it was not a problem with the poem but something about me --- I guess good poetry does that.

Such a tender moment that lets you relive each cherished memory as you stare at a gravestone and relive all that there was.

Wayne-Your poem ignites magical visions for the reader. I was captivated from the first sentence to the last as I watched the dance from afar.

@drbj...Sometimes opportunity just presents itself, Doc! LOL! Thanks much. BTW...I added two more verses for Eric. WB

@fpherj48...So glad you liked it. This one was difficult because I was not sure what it was about when the lines of the first verse came to me but I knew they had meaning so I continued to struggle. I have added two more verses to bring Eric (above) some closure on the subject.

@sweethearts2...Thank glad you enjoyed it! WB

@Faith Reaper....So glad you think so! Thanks much! WB

Mhatter99....LOL! Been watching every night! Thanks much! WB

@Ericdierker....I cannot have you walking about without a sense of closure...I have added two additional verses. Check it out and see if that helps your condition. Thanks much for the read and comment! WB

@billybuc...Most of these things just sort of move into my mind and set up housekeeping. Many times, I get a verse or two written and still do not know where it is going or what tone it will take. Somehow the words find me. Poetry was never my thing but once I started to write it, I saw the value that it had in terms of finding compact expressions which paint pictures for the reader. I then realized how much my other writing could improve as I honed my poetic skills. You should give it a go, Bill...I think you have the life experience and a way with words that would make you very good at it. Thanks much! WB

@MartieCoetser...Sometimes though our moral self says turn your head, our immoral self holds us in infatuation. That is the way life goes.....Thanks much, Martie...BTW I added two more verses. WB

Those dancing silhouettes always tickle our imagination and sense of romance. Let the Peeping Toms eat their hearts out.

      Voted up and beautiful :)

You, Sir, are a master! I am not that fond of poetry and I say that as my deficiency, no one else's...but your poetry is just excellent.

Something missing. This poem left me empty looking for a last stanza.

Sometimes I reckon things are just missing so poetry and song fill the gap.

I guess, Wayne, that voyeurism is alive and well.

But I know that Peeping Tom will never tell.
