SPEAK: A POEM

Updated on May 3, 2012

There was a sentence

Dearest to my heart

When early shades of coldness

Began to break apart

Oh! When you first

Spoke sweet and kind

To my lovelorn pain

Great joy, to find

Love! To tell me that you adore me

When it is all I can do

To survive without you

Rosy days out of the blue

Pleasant it is to sit and smile

And count thy words

Though they be few

For more, would not I give worlds?

I bite my nail and toss my hair

Engage in such sweet indulgence

Without thee, thy words to me

Are full of thy graceful presence

Ever polite, chivalric and tender

But full of manly dignity

And refined ardour

May thy days blessed be

Dearest! When you speak

My reality melts, mellow

Their echoes breathe dear music

Amidst my joys, so shallow

I don’t know if you love me

As I do, it is impossible

Arrogant, I say, a lady’s love

Can voids of oceans, easily fill

My heart grows light

And throbs more joyous yet

On it’s ecstatic flight

As you speak, with fondest fret

I am not near thee

And I may never be

But pity me, lovelorn and weak

And anon as ever, sweetly speak

Once again, your words have stunned me into near total silence, Sharon. The sheer power of the words, allows me to share both your joy and pain. I yearn to ease you of all of your ills. Thanks for this ;)

You have a such a way with words. There is a wonderfully old fashioned quality ( in a good way) to the flow and the choice of words that I adore. The emotions are captured so well and viscerally. It brings to my mind a sonnet I wrote here in the hubs called ' My language flees me'... Well done/ voted up!
