Salt and Sugar – The Flavor for Taste


What would the kitchen be like without that white ingredient?

A pinch of salt, a tea or table spoon makes the flavor a big difference

It is a natural element, free floating in the sea

Every country shores it stops at, the flavor maximizes a thousand degrees

I can’t imagine my ostrich omelette without a few grains

Salt on my eggs always sweeten the taste

My Jerk chicken recipe is hot and spicy

But it is nothing without Salt Almighty

It is used to make buns, breads and in most snacks

If you server up a dish and the taste is out, it maybe the salt it lacks

My salt is special to me no matter the dish

It simply gives a beautiful taste to my red snapper fish

Well, to me it seems salt prefers the heat a lot

Because it is always used on things served hot


But looking over at sugar and I begin to think sweet

This ingredient finds her way in everything we dink or eat

It’s in our biscuits and even that beautiful wedding cake

As a matter of fact, it is in most pastries we bake

If you lack energy, you can refuel in a blink

Sugar will boost you in that energy drink

We put it in our coffee and mix it in our tea

It sweetens our mornings, don’t you agree?

Now, what would candy be like if sugar did not exist?

Look at all the fun my sweet tooth would have missed

Why do you think people are addicted to chocolate?

Pssst. It’s the sugar, and don’t you ever forget.


There is no doubt, sugar and salt are the king of taste

No matter your religion, no matter your race

All it takes is a half cup of sugar or a teaspoon of salt

You will find that your taste buds will be off to a great start.

      i like spices too eric...but salt and sugar are taste

      Clive I do not like the things you say. I like my spices anyway.

      But alas it is my downfall that I shouldn't do those two at all.

      Some pretty good sounding recipes in this poem. Ostrich Omelet? Never heard of that but it sounds like something I would try. Great work.
