Satan's Sunrise: a Frank Atanacio Challenge

Updated on October 7, 2016
Jodah profile image

John has been writing poetry since his school days. He was awarded "Poet of the Year 2014" Hubby Awards and has had two poems become songs.

This is my second contribution of a verse for the poem Spirits Sat as Mourners

by Frank Atanacio for his April Poetry Month challenge.

The Verse I am Following on From.

Dominion of Darkness

Too late

Is the hour

For the servants of sin

Have come out among them

For death is his wage

Struggles does he

In that unseen realm

Where spiritual forces of evil dwell

She welcomes him only to reveal

Eternity awaits in unspeakable Hell!

- by Faith Reaper

Explanation of this verse.

I wanted to continue the theme of the struggle between good and evil, or angels and demons for the soul of the deceased. Shyron introduced April as the soul being fought over, so I am also keeping that in my verse.

Satan's Sunrise

As the darkness slowly ebbed

The demons howled in pain,

April's spirit hovered

Above the coffin where she'd lain.

The preacher summoned angels

As the sun began to rise,

But Satan tightened fast his grip

To hold on to his prize.

Heaven vs Hell,

At the church's ringing bell.

I thought that I had read your second entry a while ago Jodah but I guess that I did not. It was awesome and had meaning.

      Kevin

I am trying for a second entry ( 2 weeks now) but there are problems.

Thanks Ann. Yes it is getting a little difficult to keep up wit the order of the verses, especially if two people submit theirs at the same time and are following the same one. It will be up to Frank to hopefully say when the challenge is over and sort the verses into a complete poem. I look forward to that.

Another great verse for this challenge, John! I'm trying to keep up with them all but it's difficult, especially trying to see which verse follows which (though some indicate this). Will add your second link now, of course.

      Your versatility is outstanding. Ann

My pleasure Shauna that you enjoy reading my poetry. A lot of poets like to set you a task like trying to solve a riddle to decipher their poetry. I prefer to make my message clear for the reader.
