Saving Elizabeth Part 4

Updated on July 14, 2011

David felt Mark's hand cup his mouth. He struggled to free himself from the Doctor's grip. He needed to get back to the girls more than ever, now.

"David, you need to be silent and settle down. I don't know what happened to you while you were gone. I do know what has happened here in the last three minutes, though. The nurses have left the room and one of them is calling the cops Do you understand what I am saying to you??? You need to stay calm or neither of us is going to see our daughters."

"They found me there, Mark. The people hurting those girls know I was there with our daughters. You have got to send me back to them. It is the only way I can save them!"

Mark walked over and locked the door to the room. He pulled the curtain over the window closed. He could hear movement outside the E.R. door, saw the door handle pulled downward.

"You need to listen to me, David! There are people wanting to know what the hell is going on in here. Hell, I don't even know what is going on in here! They won't wait forever before they knock this door in. I need some answers before you go anywhere."

"We don't have time for this, Mark, just send me back to them."

"No!!!!!!" The doctor's voice was hard and definate. "Your body will only take so many trips to where ever you are going. It will just Not come back to life one of these times. I need to know where the girls are incase you truly die for good. I want to know our connection. There is more to this story than just Elizabeth and Sarah being at the same camp. Why can't we just send the cops there to save the girls??"

David knew the Doctor meant what he had said. He was going no-where until Mark knew what was truly happening. Time was no longer on their side and David knew it.

"Listen to me good the first time, Doc. I may not get a second chance to tell you this story. If I do not come back, it will be left to you to save Elizabeth."

"I am listening, David. Tell me everything."

"You already know our daughters are special. Their gifts range from astro-projection to making things appear that are not truly there. Your wife and mine were both born the same way. Elizabeth and Sarah were born on the same day, eleven years ago. In three days, Elizabeth will turn twelve. At that time, she will have her "gifts" full force. She will be able to make things move at ill. She will have the gift of fogging people's thoughts, changing what they see and don't see and to draw from others strengths to enhance her own. This will make her both a friend and an enemy to many."

Mark listened without interruption, though so many questions were racing through his mind.

"You were born with the gift to heal with your hands, as a surgeon. I was born with the gift to heal with my mind. My Sarah inherited both mine and my wife's gifts. She used them when-ever she could, saving little animals and friends as she grew up. She was sweet and had a gentle nature that made her want to save anything and everything that hurt. We moved around constantly, living in fear that one day, someone would take her away to use her gifts for the wrong reasons."

David's story was suddenly interrupted by pounding on the E.R. door. He could hear the yelling outside the room.

"Doc, you need to open this door, now! The police are outside with us. You need to listen to them!" The nurse sounded scared as she pleaded with Mark. "Who-ever that man said he was, he is lieing to you. The police found David Copeland this morning in his apartment in Detroit. Dr. Gleason... David Copeland is dead!"

Mark looked down at the man lieing in front of him. His thoughts were racing so fast, he could barely stay focused. He leaned close to David. "I think you better have a fantastic explanation and you need to tell it to me fast... before I unlock that door and let those policeman in here."

"I am David Copeland, Mark. The man they found in my apartment has all of my I.D. on him. I needed time to find you an the only way to do that was to create a diversion from me. He and the people that have Elizabeth killed my wife and took my Sarah. They took my beautiful little Sarah from me." Tears were flowing from David's eyes like a waterfall. Mark could feel and hear the sorrow in David's words. "Your daughter has the same gift as my Sarah had."

"Why do you say had?"

"They killed my little baby so they could find Elizabeth. Her gifts will be ten times what Sarah's would be. These people know that. Our daughters traveled through to one another via their gifts. They would meet and spend time together. Other's, with the same abilities, found Sarah and Elizabeth. They knew what a powerful weapon our daughters could be. While trying to find Elizabeth, they killed my daughter. I only have a very small window of time to save Elizabeth. After that, she can no longer bring my baby back to me. Do you see now, Mark, why I need to keep dieing? It is the Only way to save our daughters and to bring my Sarah back to me."

Mark watched as David's body convulsed as he sobbed. The feeling of sadness nearly ripped Mark's heart from his chest. This man that lay in front of him was risking his own life to save Mark's daughter. He cared nothing for his own life, only for that of Sarah and Elizabeth. Mark tasted the salt of his own tears before he ever realized that he too was crying.

"I am going to send you back, David. I will try to give you a little more time. Go save our daughters. Bring back Elizabeth to me, please."

"Mark, if I should not come back, make sure Elizabeth saves my Sarah. Take her and raise her for me. Give her a good life and never let her forget her family. I am trusting you to do this for me."

"David, I won't let you die. We will save the girls together and then..."

"Promise me, damn it! Promise me, then send me back to them!"

"I promise you, David. I will take care of Elizabeth. Go now, and save them."

David felt his life draining again. He looked down at his body. He smiled at Mark and nodded to him. And then...
