Scared of Success: a Poem

Updated on July 31, 2017

Val is a life-long student of the psycho-philosophy of living and a devoted practitioner of many techniques that enhance personal evolution.

Reluctant at some thresholds of a promising gain

just a baby step away from a dream come true

a spell like a stage fright makes it all in vain

while so paralyzed with doubt we lose our cue.

Then life goes on with no opportunities in sight

or aren't we avoiding to notice their teasing

maybe we'll catch them later for times is not right

so we say to our conscience which feels enough appeasing.

At times we use acceptance as tactics of ignoring

saying how life is good exactly as it is

turning a blind eye to the life so boring

just allowing things to go as they please.

Now, isn't that strange that we are scared of success

dreading unfamiliar even when the known is hurting

even when the life is nothing but a big mess

we are scared of change, scared of converting.

Lulled into a doze-off in our comfort zone

tired of sameness but more scared of the new

with procrastination to which we are prone

so with yet another promise we go on with no clue.
