Scrumptious Artery-Clogging Lie

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Another window, I will not look,

those succulent morsels with two foot hooks.

Pies and pastries, vanilla slices and more,

are dragging me sideways and right through the door.

I stand there still with a pleasured smile on my face,

my hunger for pastry an absolute disgrace.

That filo so light and delicate unfolds,

with fresh cream and stewed fruit, my stomach now sold.

With slices and turnovers and cream buns to boot,

I cannot resist it, I’m addicted- the truth.

It’s fabulous but unhealthy, and I can only wonder why,

A strong and healthy fellow as me can’t simply walk by.

So I close my eyes and say goodbye,

to that scrumptious artery clogging lie.

As the doorbell tinkles and I slowly walk away,

I’ve saved myself temporarily, but only for one day.

As I languidly and disappointedly walk back to my abode,

I consider how many windows I must avoid on Main Road.

The temptation is just relentless, the range of cakes unreal,

so I guess I’ll have to shop on-line, my potential sin repealed.

Food temptation is everywhere. I'll settle with stewed fruits; it's more healthy!
