Definition of Swamp/Bog

Marshes are nutrient-rich wetlands that support a variety of reeds and grasses, while swamps are defined by their ability to support woody plants and trees. Bogs are characterized by their poor soil and high peat content, while fens have less peat and more plant life than a bog.

Poetry

Although you're a magical dwelling

with countless wonders to behold

Some only see with blinded eyes

never finding secret treasures you hold

Some consumed with a dark dampened world

discerning eyes see past this outer disguise

Your vast array of of world within world

remain forever absent from naïve eyes

Your majestic fortress of dead and alive

include bird, frog, insect, moss and tree

The list of blessings never cease to amaze

and you humbly offer it to us for free

The rhythmic sounds of croaking toads

the sad love song of the whippoorwill

The unique smells of your sanctuary

make me yearn to be part of you

The gentle breeze through my window

whispers softly, "believe in me"

Lightly caressing my cheek

like the comforting touch of a Mother's hand

Others may see you as just a swamp

but you are the heaven behind the house

I have been known to dwell on things that others don't see beauty in like a rock or a tree; you have made the connection in the natural habitat that makes it your paradise, and it is good to know you have a secret place to go.

...now this is poetry ........so atmospheric are your words I felt like I was literally breathing and living inside this swamp .....but to tell you the truth I would prefer to live inside your head - because you are like a hero to me in so many ways - and a mentor too - I have read your comment to me at Fossil Lady's hub - and to tell you the truth I was quite moved and honored especially coming from someone as special as you!

Dear drbj-Oh how I love the word you chose to describe the swamp, "ENCHANTED." That is how I truly feel about swamps, especially the one behind my house. In the summer months I love going down to the edge of the swamp and watching and listening and smelling. It's amazing to me. Maybe it's because I grew up next to a HUGE swamp and we were always playing in and around it as kids.

The mighty swamp plays magic at night

Its charming games played by most of the creatures, Know this: their not a fright

The fog seeps out of the vortex you know

the magical fairies give the swamp its yellow glow

Next time you walk by a swamp you'll see, the magic it is and it's majesty.

Healing Touch- aka- sister-friend- ewwwww, love the images your poem incites. It makes me think we should run down to the swamp this cold wintery eve and see the goings on and/or shanannigans. Perhaps we will surprise the fairies that fly above, as they scatter their fairy dust on the creatures and plants below. Can I count on you for a midnight rendesvous?????
