Seeking Love

Updated on February 25, 2015

Somewhere along the way

I lost love

it was there in the palm of my hand

and then like a young bird

it simply flew away

love dawned like the morning sun

and shone so very bright

it warmed my heart and soul

becoming mellow

at twilight time

I couldn’t find love

once it had flown

behind it left

the dark of the night

I couldn’t find the stars

nor the moon

everything cloaked in black velvet

until the early morning light

perhaps love like the sea

moves ever onwards

taking the time

to caress the shore

with its waves

then just as quickly

going away

shining as bright

as the morning sun

when it steps over the horizon

warming with its glow

then slowly fading

as day moves on

and the shadows get long

sadness takes over

in purple twilight time

as the sun leaves the sky

and says good-night

so do lovers part

searching for love

like a lighthouse

its beam shining through the night

beckoning to be seen

to be found and safe

sheltered in loving arms again

seeking the truth

on moonlit nights

when everything glows

in a magic light

wishing upon the stars

that twinkle and wink right back

seeking a hand to hold

someone beside me

dreaming the same wonderful dreams

then I knew I was looking

at love the wrong way

love is best when silent

not a lot to say

love comes quietly

like a colorful butterfly

awakening the emotions

sleeping silent in one’s heart

flittering all about

filling the soul with joy

it was then that I knew I had found love

like a colorful butterfly it was

but love cannot be bound and chained

and if it wants to stay

it must do so on its own

but if it wants to be free and to fly away

like a butterfly once its summer dance is through

then you must let it go

for it was meant to be and true

love will return soon

Yes, Ed the love between poets never ends. At times I've even noticed that muses seem to inspire likewise and something I've been dreaming about gets picked up by another poet as well. Like we're all on one great big universal wavelength. I think that's fantastic. Hope all is well in your poetic world. Hugs.

      Rasma , Its a good thing us poets know how to love one another from all over the world ! We have a connection that works somehow to just give us a good feeling about who we are and what we need ! No ? Look at it this way - love between two people comes and goes . But love between poets who share - is forever !........Keep up the writing my loyal friend ....:-}

A totally awesome poem. Now becoming more elegant, more exquisite, softer, sweeter ...and so practice shows, perhaps? Lots of love, Gypsy.

I like the flow of this beautiful poem. It's like a journey of enlightenment. As the words continue on, the wisdom of the love lost, is learned. I hit many buttons and voted up.

I agree with Ruby. And your poem, Rasma, shows you understand love that is meant to be and love that is wished to be. Sometimes we just need to let go and let nature take its course.

Beautiful Rasma. Sometimes it's best to let love go when it's not right and love will always find you when you least expect it...
