Separated roads of life

Updated on November 22, 2011
Source

Two roads are diverging in yellow wood.

One road leads to my father,

One road leads to my mother.

Don’t know where to go?

I don’t know what is mother?

What is the taste of her love?

What is the charm of her lap?

What is her guidance?

How she kisses?

Don’t know where to go?

I don’t know what is father?

What is the shadow of his love?

What is the charm of his company?

What’s his guidance?

And how he scolds?

I don’t know where to go?

I am the one without name

Having parents but no one to claim

Always a question pinch my mind,

When a storm of aches sink my heart

Why my mother gave me birth?

Why they tied me in the chains of their relationship?

Why they made me a prey of their omission?

Why they left me alone in this grim society?

But I know

They are like the stones,

hard and rough.

No love is there in the bosom of my mother.

No love is there in the heart of my father.

My road of life is barren

But Why I miss them?

Why I care them?

Why I love them?

They never think of me.

Still I think and love them.

Who is better I cannot show?

So I don’t know where to go?

Explanation of the poem

separated roads of life is an emotional, sensitive and thought provoking poem revolves around the feelings of an 11 year old boy. After the separation of his parents his mind becomes a jungle of questions. He is unaware that where he has to go?

His life always revolves around the question

Where to go?

After the break up of the relation of his parents; they are now divided in two roads. And he is imagining himself sitting between two roads but don’t know which road he has to choose to live? His little, sensitive heart is unaware to understand the love of his mother and father. He is not aware about the shadow of his father.

In the second stanza he said,’ that he is unlucky one without name, having parents but no one wants to take his responsibility. But question of Why haunted him; that why his parents tied him in the chain of that relation. And why her mother gave birth?

He is afraid of the feelings of loneliness, which is following him after the separation of his parents.

Being the part of a broken family he feels; that his parents are selfish and hard like stones.

He thought that his parents are responsible for the barrenness of his life. Here that is clear that his little mind is unable to decide and Where to go? To conclude the whole discussion we can say that separation between parents always leave hurt hearts and minds in the society. And it is impossible to heal their wounds; even time is the great healer but can’t do anything to fill this gap.

I loved it! I am a single mother raising my son who I adopted. Though there is not a split of a relationship, I was drawn into your poem because my son always has questions about everything and I sometimes wonder am i doing a good job! I think today, because of your poem, I will sit down and talk to him and let him know he can ask anything and get a million dollar answer from his Mommy! Great poem. Keep them coming!

Very true expression of feelings of a child from broken family.Definitely he/she can not experience life as a whole. As he/she experince joy and happiness in part either with his/her mother or father.

      very sensitive wxpressin.

Having a broken family is not an easy situation... growing up in a broken family is hard especially when you need to know about a girl thing or a boy thing, and growing up in a broken family can change your views in life, how you think, how you act.

OMG, I had shivers up and down my spine and tears filled my eyes my son is nine and me and my husband split and I can only imagine that this is exactly how he feels. The severity of a divorce is never revealed only within the eyes and a heart of a child. Very great and wonderful piece. Sad but beautiful and well told.
