A Secret that Helped Shape My Future Life

Updated on January 31, 2017

Another Saturday spent and Just like that of any other,

Sitting in the station watching ball games with a brother.

Owner said to a buddy, please don't you use any raw gas,

Boys who have a date don't listen, had to finish fast.

As the two workers ran by on fire, both up in a flame,

So hastening their lives to expire, was such a shame,

A Friend and I followed behind to keep the boys alive,

Patted out the worst of it, as the fire truck to arrive.

I tried to do my best, but that was just not enough done,

We could not save either of them, not even a single one.

We took off our shirts, and gave our best that we could,

Both covered up these friends, the way that we should.

The burned friend asked me why his skin was now white,

Would Jesus come to save him, he was losing his sight.

I tried to comfort him then, and told him not to lose heart,

While the technicians attended, it almost tore me apart.

As the ambulances took the two boys, and began to drive away,

I looked at the fire chief, then, on this terrible and saddening day,

Standing there in humble reverence, shook his head then to say,

"They Didn't have to die, lives are not just games, meant to play".

I've spent the rest of my life, since that bad day, my way to atone,

Served my kids in need and taught them all, my best have shown.

An old injury kept me out of the military, of any service in Vietnam,

Was a teacher then of Special Needs, not just for Uncle Sam.

More people should do saving instead of complaining especially when it comes to kids. Well done.

Whonu, what a horrific experience! But everything happens for a reason, right? Giving your life for special needs kids is admirable. You're a very special person, whonu.
