She Was His Love

Updated on June 30, 2013

She was his night and day

She was all he cared about

His life revolved around her

And her kisses so sublime

He wasn’t what she was looking for

He was just great fun

She knew how to make him

Want her more and more

She was what he dreamed about

She was who he brought presents for

He was great for loving

He was fine for dining out

She loved every present

But longed for another

She made his heart ache

She was what he wanted

His life would never be the same

If she ever went away

Came the day when she

Thought she’d found someone better

And without a single good-bye

She simply walked out of his life

And he was crushed

His heart tore apart

She was all he longed for

She was who he hoped

Would come back to him

Her new love made her realize

That dreams don’t come

A dime a dozen

That people with hearts of gold

Are just too few

She realized that she had been wrong

So wrong to give up a love

A love that had been so true

All because she’d been blinded

By a more brilliant smile

He had moved on

Doubting that she’d ever come back

But in his dreams

She’d still return

And he’d wake up

To an old ache

She finally figured it out

To win back

The one she’d left behind

Another night spent

Tossing and turning

His mind still bound by her

Came a new day

And he awoke to find

A dozen red roses

In front of his door

There was a note

Which simply said

If you still love me

Then I love you too

This reminds me of an old song by Colin Raye..."We Really Aren't That Different"....check it out on YouTube and you'll see why I say that.

      Beautiful story as always, Rasma!

Rasma, I dug it. I reckon I could say "been there, done that and have the T-shirt, but I would be lying for there were never the roses with the note, just the rest of the story.

Wonderful story! I hope it wasn't too late. We don't know what we have until it's gone sometimes. :-)

Very lovely! Yes, we may think the grass is greener on the other side, when it is truly not and then . . .

      God bless, Faith Reaper

nice story bit sad bit exciting but at least i'm happy at the end that she realizes that true love is never to be given up at all because we never know the value of our true lovers untill we lose them. once i read somewhere that a person is very lucky if she/he has only one friend but with a heart of gold filled with true love for his/her beloved. truly pure love is the biggest treasure in this materialistic age if one finds it luckily then he or she should know its value, its really a great blessing. many blessings rasma dear for posting the hub. nice and very true!

why do we humans find it so difficult to appreciate what we have - while we still have it? least she...evolved, and realized what she'd lost..

Hopefully, their love will have a second chance, but, how can he ever trust her fully again?

quite the conundrum you've presented here, dear..

      sharing on..

A sweet and romantic beginning with a 'just might be happily ever after'! The whole middle was a little heart wrenching... and I think we've all seen this before. Beautifully done!

      Up and more! Sharing too!

Usually when we think of someone receiving roses, it is the woman. I like how this time it was the woman leaving the flowers. Emotionally sad. Artistically crafted. Voted Up!

      Best Always,

This poem reminds me of an old love or two. At the time, there was a sense of betrayal and loss but in time we come to realize that something about that person was just not right for us starting with the fact that we were their "second choice" from the git-go. Life has a way of dealing the cards and giving us a way out when we do not have better sense on our own I think. The only regret is that the part of that person that stopped you in your tracks seems to live on in the memory...the rest pales beside it and thus we tend to assign them a place upon the pedestal which they never should have occupied in the first place. Good verse, thanks for sharing it. ~WB

Glad you enjoyed this Bill. I'll check out that song.

      Glad you enjoyed this Wayne.

Glad you enjoyed this Eric and love your comment.

Glad you enjoyed this Ruby and yes, it does take time to discover that love is true.

Lurana that is so true. We sometimes get blinded by other things only to learn the truth later and hopefully not too late.

Learned that long ago Faith that the grass in not always greener on the other side of the fence. God bless.

      Glad you enjoyed this Midget.

So true writinglover sometimes you have it all only to lose it by not realizing that it's there.

Glad you enjoyed this Sfurti. Yes, sometimes we may lose what was the best after all.

Glad you enjoyed this Rajan and thanks for the vote and share.

Yes, passionate we may lose something very dear if we don't realize it before it's too late. I left the question open at the end though - did he or did he not accept her love.

Well Leslie this comes with the fact that we are sort of stumbling through life and learning as we go along. I guess it's best to let our hearts lead us when it comes to love. He knew, she was a fool but in the end hey, it can be magic. Thanks for the share. Hugs.

Yes, Cat there are times we don't realize how good we have it until it's almost too late. Thanks for the vote and share.

Well, Kim I wrote this to express the fact that she couldn't think of any other way to express that she was sorry and that she did truly love him. It's then up to the man to accept or not accept. Thanks for the vote and share.

Wayne I'll tell you after I read your comment it got me to realize. It's always that the most passionate love in our hearts is that which we can't forget and if in the end we can be one that's great . Otherwise it takes some time for the healing and forgetting. However the situation I was in once had a different ending but now I know that he has true love and he knows that I do. So it would have been a disaster if we had tried to stay together. Happens in life. Here too I've left the question open will he or won't he accept her love.

I thinkn Leslie said it best, we never appreciate what we have...that is what this beautiful poem shows me. The love he had for her was strong and lasting and she was fooled by a smile or a better look! How nice she finally realized.

      Voted up, awesome, and interesting.

Rasma, this for me is one of your best yet! How often when we're younger do we get blinded to the true love that's there by the better physical appearance of another? Then we realise, good looking doesn't necessarily mean love at all. Luckily in your beautiful poem, the girl realises this and is heading, hopefully for a lovely ending!!

Being the guy in this situation.. it was a tough read. I enjoyed how syntax shifted with the tension, definitely found my eyes close small as I struggled to read till the end. When a man believes he's found the other half of him I fear nothing has the strength to pull him from his hole. If forced to move on, he merely digs another hole still in the one he's locked in. The hope of light and the smell of fresh air, all that keeps him digging. Voted up

      Hi gypsy-rose- lee.

How thoughtful. Love in its actuality never changes. Feelings, emotions , fantasies will change and diminish; love's there not suspended , never moved away. Once established , exceeds all words in attempt to express , say, correspond including " I love you ".

We all have our favorites ...

      My vote up and beautiful.
