Short Story - The Rubberband Man

Updated on June 24, 2017

Here is a very short story

Based on a dream....

The Rubberband Man

I once found myself in a town where the locally acclaimed superhero was a Rubberband Man. I readily giggled, rolled my eyes at the idea and I figured that I better keep myself well out of harm's way because what can a Rubberband Man do for me if I find myself in danger? Nothing! Or, so I thought...

One day shortly after, I found myself with my shoe caught in the railroad tracks as I was trying to cross. Before I knew it the train was coming.

The Rubberband Man came and pushed me out of the way just in time. He ended up taking my place in the path of the train and was hit by it! He stretched with the train as far as it went before stopping and then he bounced right back!

The Rubberband Man did not go away immediately but rather, came over to me to see if I felt okay. I had been tossed into the most beautiful green hedges, a soft landing. These hedges were just beyond a wrought iron fence. They were part of the landscaping for a nearby apartment complex. I nodded my head. Yes, I was okay and I thanked the Rubberband Man profusely.

Never underestimate the power of a good Rubberband Man.

I am not the type to ridicule others but in my mind, I had been making fun of the Rubberband Man. That was before he saved me. I thought of all the other superheroes with their ability to fly, swing through a city on a spidey web, etc and I did not find the same value in the Rubberband Man. Boy, was I wrong.

Note- I had this dream while seven months pregnant and have heard about how vivid and wild dreams can be at that time. Perhaps it is also indicative of the flexibility I will be needing as a new mom!

Are there any 'experts' in dream interpretation out there (real experts or self proclaimed)? I welcome your comments.

the super hero rubber band man is too good. try building the character for a potential fiction, who knows he could be the next darkknight or superman. the name is perfect so is your pen! keep writing..cheers

Your a true writer to write a story from a dream you had. Haha. I enjoyed reading it. I'll be sure to call on the Rubberband man next time I'm in a pickle.
